    The class of '96

Isn't Miller back at Aberdeen anyway, in some sort of "Director of Football" role?

      The class of '96

The Argentina squad from the 1986 World Cup, in alphabetical order:

Sergio Almirón: Newell's Old Boys midfielder in '86, currently in charge of their youth setup.

Sergio Batista: Argentinos midfielder in '86, has since managed Bella Vista (Uruguay), Argentinos, Talleres de Córdoba and Nueva Chicago before taking charge of Argentina's youth sides earlier this year. Currently deserves to feel very angry at not being offered the national job ahead of Diego Fucking Maradona.

      Ricardo Bochini

Claudio Borghi: Argentinos attacker in '86, has managed Universidad, Audax Italiano and Colo-Colo in Chile (winning the title with the latter, last year), and Independiente in Argentina.

José Luis Brown: Boca Juniors defender and scorer of one goal in the '86 final (the only international goal he ever got). Has managed various teams in the Argentine lower divisions, with little distinction, had a poor spell at Blooming in Bolivia which lasted 16 matches. Assisted Carlos Bilardo at Boca in the mid '90s and is now expected to assist Maradona in charge of the national team.

Daniel Passarella: Inter defender in '86 and, of course, captain of the '78 WC-winning team. Took charge at River Plate in 1989 shortly after retiring, won three titles there and took charge of Argentina after the 1994 World Cup. Has also managed Uruguay, Parma, Monterrey in Mexico, Corinthians in Brazil and a second (much less successful) spell at River.

Jorge Burruchaga: Nantes striker in '86, and scorer of the winner in the final. Has managed Arsenal de Sarandí, Estudiantes de La Plata, Independiente and currently Banfield.

Néstor Clausen - Independiente defender in '86, hasn't managed as far as I'm aware.

José Luis Cucciuffo - Vélez Sársfield defender in '86, never managed and was killed in a car crash aged 43 in 2004.

      Diego Maradona: No comment.

Jorge Valdano: Real Madrid striker in '86. Later managed Tenerife, Madrid and Valencia, all in Spain. Now commentates and writes about football.

Héctor Enrique - River midfielder in '86. Has never managed. Special mention though: it was him who passed the ball to Maradona in the match against England to set up that slalom run across half the Jalisco pitch.

Oscar Garré: Ferro defender in '86. Joint managed Ferro and managed Lanús in Argentina, later moved to Chile with three different clubs, then back to Argentina with Atlético Rafaela, and Ferro again last year.

Ricardo Giusti - Independiente midfielder in '86, hasn't managed as far as I'm aware.

Luis Islas - Estudiantes goalie in '86 (signed for Independiente after the WC). Never managed.

Julio Olarticoechea: River goalie in '86, and also played for Boca among others. Currently a coach with the national youth setup.

Pedro Pasculli - Lecce striker in '86. Hasn't managed as far as I know.

Nery Pumpido: River goalie in '86. Has managed Unión de Santa Fe, Olimpia in Paraguay (winning the 2002 Copa Libertadores), Tigres in Mexico, Newell's, and Veracruz in Mexico, where had a bit of a 'mare. He's now one of the favourites to take over at River following Diego Simeone's resignation on Sunday.

Oscar Ruggeri: River defender in '86. Another who also played for Boca. Has managed San Lorenzo, Chivas then Tecos in Mexico, Independiente, Elche in Spain, América in Mexico and then San Lorenzo again. Another possibility to take over at River soon.

Carlos Tapia - Boca midfielder in '86. Hasn't managed.

Marcelo Trobbiani: Millonarios (Colombia) midfielder in '86. Has managed 'various South American clubs' according to his Spanish language Wiki entry, including Universitario in Peru. Also assisted Miguel Angel Russo at Boca.

Héctor Zelada - Club América de México goalie in '86. Didn't play a minute of the tournament but got to watch the final from the bench of his then current club. Hasn't managed.

13 managers in total, then. Or rather, 12 managers and Diego Maradona. Diego fucking Maradona...
