    Avenues in Songs

    Heartache Avenue - Maisonettes

Walking Down Madison (which does not use the word Avenue but is about one) - Kirsty MacColl. Her best lyric and very pertinent to now.

    "Electric Avenue" - Eddy Grant.

Eddy Grant and The Maisonettes charted simultaneously with the aforementioned hits.

Meanwhile, the oft-mentioned-around-these-parts Duffy spoke to us of Warwick Avenue around ten years back.

(After leaving Menswe@r, 6Music presenter/producer Matt Everitt was briefly a member of indie-hopefuls The Montrose Avenue during the late nineties - and there was also Madison Avenue, who topped the charts with the excellent Don't Call Me Baby around the same time.)

I assume that that connects with the boulevard of same?

              Perhaps more 'residential'.

I heard her say over my shoulder
We'll meet again someday on the avenue
                Tangled up in blue

Boulevard is evidently much more tony. The same dream on the Avenue would be run-down rather than broken.

"We're a couple of swells" sung by Fred Astaire & Judy Garland in the movie "Easter Parade"
has an extremely high "Avenue" count in it's lyric despite not having the word in it's title.

It really should be Cul-de-Sac Of Broken Dreams...

(Shouldn't that be on the other thread?)

(Edit: Has been backed out, wearily.)

                            And going back a bit...

Tom Waits has taken strolls down both Virginia and Kentucky Avenues.

The Boss had a Tenth Avenue Freeze-out.

Ray Charles lived on a Lonely Avenue.

Van lived on nearby and rather less leafy Hyndford Street (also celebrated in song title). Cyprus Avenue was home to Ian Paisley senior and family for many years.

Rod Stewart - The Killing of Georgie (both boulevard and Avenue)

....a gentle breeze blew down 5th Avenue.

Also I Am Kloot - Avenue of Hope

Not a title but a lyric from one of my favourite tunes of all time. It's New Order (or Joy Division) and Ceremony:

                                            Avenues all lined with trees
Picture me and then you start watching
                                            Watching forever

Avenues get a mention in the lyrics of Kraftwerk’s Europe Endless.
