So, it appears the streaming service is branching out from purely US and UK-based fare, and is offering a similar range of European programming to Channel Four's player. Some of the most publicised have been The Dark, Rain and Money Heist, but are any of these actually worth watching?

European series on Netflix

Conversely, I liked Dark more the longer it went on, though I'm not convinced the second series will be any good. 3%, which is Brazilian rather than European, started out strong but got too soapy for my tastes. Would have been better as a BBC style three parter.
I quite enjoyed a couple of Japanese series - manga-adaptation Erased and dessert-based curio Kantaro.
I've added Elite to my list, but not watched any yet.

I watched the first episode of Money Heist and Rain respectively and found them both terrible so didn't persevere. The Chalet is pretty formulaic and a bit silly, but entertaining enough if you like that kind of thing.
Not to be pedantic, but UK programmes are also European by the way, and classed as such by Netflix (the lists of suggested European shows are always full of BBC stuff.)

It's always had (mainland) European stuff on, no? That's about 75% of what we've watched on Netflix

Something has to be really, really, really compelling - like Babylon Berlin - for me to deal with subtitles for a whole series. Perhaps I don't have the right distance between my chair and the TV for my glasses prescription. I even have dropped out of Narcos for the forseeable future.
As I may have mentioned before, sometimes when I watch something with subtitles for a while, my brain forgets that it's reading and not understanding the language and so during a dull scene I may drift away into the kitchen or look at my phone while still listening and then remember "Oh wait, I don't actually know Danish."Last edited by Hot Pepsi; 31-10-2018, 16:33.
