He has a four now, to spoil the stat.

However, he has now made this wrong:

285 all out. Based on what i've read, that's a good score on this pitch

Curran and Anderson have taken this away from Lanka. Bah.

Need to rustle up some u-35 spinners pronto.

Some batsmen might be a good idea too.

Stokes' running out of Karunaratne sounds good. SL are five down.

Sri Lanka battling hard. This is going to be a lot closer than DG may have feared.

Sri Lanka's determined batting versus England's spinning guile making for a great match.

Huh. Five penalty runs to England. I can't quite understand why.

5 penalty runs? Not seen that before.

You've not been watching the Women's T20 World Cup, then.

                            For a deliberate short run.

                              Aha! Thanks.

I was worried it might be the same as that nonsense in the women's world cup, but a deliberate short run makes sense.

Ah, is it a slightly different thing then? The penalties in the WWT20 have been for running in the danger area.

edit - seen it now, ok, so he didn't ground his bat beyond the crease. Cheeky beggar.

Anyway, even after that, Lanka are now ahead.

With all the gamesmanship that goes unpunished in Tests, it seems a trivial offence to give 5 runs for, especially with the subjective judgment of deliberate. As if the umpire wants to be the centre of attention.

All out, lead of 46. Gauntlet thrown.

Excellent comeback by the Lanka lower order backing Roshen

Cancelling a couple of Lanka runs would make more sense than giving England 5

England left to face one over, safely seen out by nightwatchman Leach.

It was not an attempt to steal a run or retain strike, just a brainfart caused by assuming the ball would go for four. It was not what the rule was designed to prevent, as Cricinfo explains:

                                            http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/...short-incident

But anyway, a 46 lead is useful on a pitch that looks about 250 par.

All the comment on the BBC coverage was that it was very harsh as he thought he'd hit a boundary.

What is the possible advantage to him in not grounding his bat?

Does this series have a name like the Border/Gavaskar trophy?
It could be the Constitutional Crisis series.
