    Escape-ism

Briefly, I'm incredibly taken with nonfiction about escapes...usually war stuff. The Shawshank Redemption and The Great Escape are two of my all-time favorite movies.

Thoroughly enjoyed Ghost Soldiers: The Forgotten Epic Story of World War II's Most Dramatic Mission, which either Reed or Inca recommended.

BUT...I'm here today about The One That Got Away by James Leasor and Kendal Burt. Marvelous tale about the capture and escape...and escape...and escape of Luftwaffe pilot Franz von Werra, a charming, wily, charismatic adventurer/scoundrel, from various POW camps in the UK and Canada. Available for pennies on Abebooks, it's well worth your time.
