    Aretha Gravely Ill

Not a huge shock given her health problems but a arguably would be as big a loss from her era as Bowie and Prince were from theirs in terms of influence. Just watch any of American Idol type shows to see how many singers imitate her (or imitate singers who imitated her).

Say a little prayer for her?

      Best wishes for her.

Absolutely best wishes. Probably won't hear her sing again but Good God, what a body of work.

            And fail.

            Spectacularly.

Awful, awful, awful news. My favourite singer of all time, bar none.

But then, given what she's been through in her life, we were incredibly lucky that we got to enjoy her voice - and her personality - for as long as we did.

Is there a good Aretha biography that includes the activism aspect of her life?

Yes, excellent work by ad hoc. We should send him a PM in gratitude.

I never knew until just now that Until You Come Back To Me (That's What I'm Gonna Do) is a Stevie Wonder co-composition.

Oh no! One of the finest singers in any genre, ever. Her life wasn't a bed of roses but she came through with immense dignity and made some of the best records ever. Her legacy will live forever.

                            RIP Aretha. Rock Steady.

Defies rational understanding. And, Mr. Harriott, the quip CRACCA was brilliant. Made me laugh out loud.

Dunno about a bio but there's this article. I found it on this Twitter thread of articles about Aretha by black women.
