Apparently the toy train left outside Joan Ryan‘s Office ( not-Jewish right wing Labour MP who is chair of Labour Friends of Israel ) is a Holocaust Reference

On a tangential note, it doesn’t half make me glad I ditched twitter seeing all this point/counterpoint bollocks.

Richard Silverstein, a Jewish American writer behind the very good Tikum Olam blog, has been banned from twitter apparently at the request of a few pro-occupationist anti-Palestinian racists. This for refusing to refer to a militant armed settler as "an activist". He asks that everybody write to twitter and spread word of this in any way they can . Details here https://www.richardsilverstein.com/

For the same reasons that suggesting Roy Hodgson's "legitimate space tale" was a racist remark doesn't mean you're a racist (even if, again, you've probably got the wrong end of the stick).

This is still very good on Corbynism and antisemitism (or rather looking beyond Corybnism).

It is indeed a good piece, and it's almost two years old, and "This mythologising about the anti-racism of the Labour Party and the workers’ movement is part of the problem" is still at the heart of things.

I didn't see it, but the Guardian's live blog reports it as "A lot of Jewish people would like you to look at the camera and apologise"

So, basically, Jeremy Corbyn is Hitler.

Is there a prize for an actual Godwin?

The one time recently I saw Marr interviewing someone, I thought he was an asshole. I see no reason to change my view.

If the Jewish Chronicle is going to smear and trash the reputation of the small number of left-wing jews actually trying to organise against antisemitism within the left, they clearly view partisan political point-scoring as a more important and useful goal than eradicating antisemitism.

The left is irredeemably antisemitic, the right; no problems there at all.

EDIT: think the JC has published about three subsequent smear pieces can't wait for them to get sued.

The Jewish Chronicle is now terrible paper edited by Stephen Pollard a really nasty piece of work. Brexit is a glorious day for Britain and its Jews he dismisses anti zionist Jews or even those who oppose Likud/Netanyahu as "asajews" - I don't think the number of left wing Jews is that small actually. it's just they tend either to be Reform Jews or not practicing and often more recent arrivals - refugees from Germany Austria and Central and Eastern Europe in the 30's instead of Russia and Poland around 1900.

And if anybody had any doubts about what this was all about

A conference in Brussels backed by the Israeli government is to push for all European political parties to sign up to “red lines” that declare boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) tactics to be “fundamentally antisemitic”.

The two-day convention, attended by Israel’s minister of Jerusalem affairs, Ze’ev Elkin, will propose a text for prospective MEPs and political parties to sign up to before European elections in May next year.

The text urges EU member states to sign up to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s “working definition of antisemitism” and exclude from government any politicians or parties that breach it.
Meanwhile Israel is considering a prison sentence of up to SEVEN years for those who advocate BDS

The new bill, sponsored by MK Anat Berko (Likud), would expand the prohibition such that working to harm Israel’s interests or its international relations would be a crime even if no other crime were committed in the process. The bill has been co-sponsored by several other MKs from Likud, Kulanu and the ultra-Orthodox parties.
“It’s possible to criticize Israel,” the explanatory notes say, “and freedom of expression shouldn’t be undermined, heaven forbid. But anyone who lends a hand to boycotts that harm Israel economically or harm it in another way, like academic boycotts, must be called to account for it.
This would include boycotts of goods from the occupied territories.

They are also trying to outlaw BtSelem Breaking the Silence.

Sorry, I meant the number of left-wing jews actively doing the sort of political organising against antisemitism within the left in the way Annie Cohen does is pretty small. It's small largely cos it seems utterly thankless.

You may need a shower after reading this

The Middle East Forum (MEF) is helping Robinson in his moment of danger. It does so in the context of its Legal Project which since 2007 has defended activists, journalists, politicians, et al. who face harassment, fines, or imprisonment because of their views concerning Islamism and related topics.

MEF is sponsoring and organizing the second “Free Tommy Robinson” gathering in London on July 14. MEF previously provided all the funding and helped organized the first “Free Tommy Robinson” event held June 9 in London.

MEF, along with a coalition of UK advocacy groups and international figures will assemble to advocate for Mr. Robinson’s release and demand greater protections for freedom of speech and freedom of the press in the United Kingdom. MEF is arranging for U.S. Congressman Paul Gosar (Republican of Arizona) to travel to London to speak alongside the Dutch political leader Geert Wilders, and others.
