Ha ha, that was pretty much the start of my thinking on the matter, will have to see if I can find out whose tweet it was.

Is "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" heatwave or just summery?

The final sequence of the reasonably decent Stallone/Banderas movie “Assassins” is set around keeping cool - in both senses of the word- in very hot weather..

It's not a specific heatwave film but "Reservoir dogs "is one of the sweatiest films I've ever seen
But isn't this one caused by us too?

The Go Between was set in an English summer heatwave, where Julie Christie’s posho got all hot and bothered by a local oik and ends up with her, er, knickers in a twist.

Not sure if Death In Venice counts, though the main character virtually melts in the heat. That film might seem a bit paedo-y these days.

D.O.A seemed to be a very hot movie but that was probably because it was set in Texas. Any film set in the desert - From Dusk til Dawn etc - doesn't count as a "heatwave" movie, does it?

More than a little. Mann's original love object was only 10 years old:

Falling Down feels like it should fit in this.

First Reformed which you should all go and see has a strong subplot about global warming

High Plains Drifter has the opening and closing scenes with the heat shimmer, although that's probably more supernatural in origin.

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly has Eli Wallach dragging a very thirsty Clint in the hot sun.

In the Heat of the Night does bear repeated watching and stands the test of time.

The heat does have bearing on the plot although it’s a standard Mississippi summer. Rod Steiger’s cop’s dodgy aircon doesn’t help his temper either.

There’s always plenty of sweltering heat in Tennessee Williams adaptations. Again, fairly standard Southern weather.

The suggestions here are very good.
