While I agree it's a shame Man United didn't sign Mahrez (I'm sure Mourinho would have made a fine right back of him) I think the top two will most likely be unchanged from last season. Probably with a smaller gap, not because I think United will be any better or City significantly worse, but because it would be so difficult for City to be as consistently good as they were last term for a second straight season.

The unknown factor is at what point of the season Mourinho's meltdown will really kick in. With Woodward overseeing things a mid-season managerial replacement does not seem likely to go smoothly. But it's here. For the first time since they appointed the horrible cunt, we're at the point where his career to date appears to give justification for hoping that he won't still be the manager in twelve months' time. The fact they'll probably get Phil Neville in the spare time he's got around the England job is a price I'm willing to pay.

We don't do Premier League discussions well on Otf, do we really?

Manchester City will win the league by miles because they're the best team with the best manager
Liverpool will finish fourth despite looking like they should finish second
Manchester United will finish second despite looking like they should finish fourth
Tottenham will be hailed as the best English team in a generation and win nothing again
Arsenal will win the FA Cup
Chelsea will sack their manager at the end of the season
          Everton will finish upper mid-table
          Newcastle will finish lower mid-table
          Southampton will struggle
          West Ham won't
No one will remember Cardiff or Huddersfield are in the PL except people in Cardiff and Huddersfield, Swansea and Leeds.
Watford will seemingly lose every week but finish well clear of relegation
          etc etc

          I'm unenthused.

Not sure that Pep is best manager. Certainly not in cup football.

OTOH It's the weakest field for many years, post-Fergie and Wenger.

You should see the Division Three threads, it's like Game of Thrones on there.

I actually used to like the way that "Weekend TV" threads naturally seemed to focus on PL football, it worked well.

Well who is then? I mean, I really don't want to get dragged into an argument on this topic given I hate him and his team, but

                Klopp? Can't win a final
Pochettino? Can't win a semi. Or anything.
                Mourinho? Yesterday's man
Unai Emery? Who now Emery more like.
Dyche? Moyes with a stick-on beard
Benitez? I'm scraping the barrel here

Yeah, the problem last year was that there was just one thread seemingly for all the football...

(I don't know what Game Of Thrones is like so have no idea what that first sentence means.)

Yeah, that was rubbish (though unintended by the thread starter, I think. They just started a thread for the first week end and everyone followed on with it all season).

Do you have a British club team bix?

I have just registered my Fantasy team and for the 1st time can select a fave team among the 20 - of course I've had passing flirts (bet last year on huddersfield to stay up/good friend from work's team) but Wolves, where I studied early 80s, was a student fling and I stuck with them as they sunk down to the bottom of the 4th, partly cos I always lived very near the ground and would even go in at half time in the real doldrums (their footballing doldrums/my financial ones).

Must say, despite our Neymar differences in the World Cup threads (early doors) I have appreciated your arrival on OTF.

Wait what? I don't remember you ever having mentioned this to me. I thought you might have.

(For the benefit of everyone else: bix has been a very occasional poster for some time here, and I've met him once or twice because he knows my best mate via the London jazz scene. And my best mate, like me, is from just outside Bristol ...)

Anyway, to get away from the frippery and down the stuff that really matters, Axel Tuanzebe is an official Guinness World Record holder as the fastest person to finish a game of Hungry Hungry Hippos (erroneously referred to in the article as just 'Hungry Hippos' – have I mentioned the importance of hiring a proofreader who specialises in sport for your sport-based proofreading needs? Get in touch. My rates are reasonable). Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, Pep.

Crystal Palace v Fulham is presumably going ahead on Saturday 11 August. Do any of you folks know:
                                          1) at what point in time the scheduled kick-off is confirmed, ie, Sky et al aren’t going to dick with the game
                                          2) whether such a fixture requires advanced ticket purchase?

I’m up in London that day with an old friend from the US and his boy, both Palace fanatics, and they’re very keen to see a game.

Palace’s website says that it will be at 3pm, but their allocation is sold out (the match is at Craven Cottage).

Fulham is currently selling tickets only to members and season ticket holders, but that may change.
