That lots of people can’t spell “Colombia” or “Sterling”.

Nothing has changed since 2014 in that respect.

The way the italians dealt with football hooliganism at italia 90 was genius. "Think you're hard? want to fight a local? Welcome to Palermo, where your every need will be met. Want to "take over" a town Square in a display of territorialism and disrespect? Then why don't you invade Sunny Sardinia?"

This is too much on the nose, even for me.

Heavy rain damaged one of Russia’s newly-built World Cup stadiums on Sunday when the tournament ended with the final in Moscow.

Footage from the southern city of Volgograd showed a fresh landslide on an embankment near the stadium, which made a several-meter-deep hole in it and covered a sidewalk with mud.

The World Cup is about teams, not vanity competitions between players.

I think we all knew it was really, but this year was particularly remarkable in that you had two of the greatest players of all time seeking their (probable) crowning moment, alongside the one everyone was expecting to justify his astonishing hype by leading his side to a win. The last World Cup that was so much around individual expectation was 1986, with Platini, Zico and Maradona all really bigger stories than their team-mates. Ronaldo in 2002 was a bit similar.

Well, we knew it was but, not for the first time, OTF appears to be out of kilter with popular and media perception. Because we aren't thick, basically.

Nef - thanks for the Pogba link

Just shows that in the right context with the right manager how a player like Pogba can evolve

Will that continue under Mourinho ?

He seems to have spent all his time trying to crush Pogba's confidence, Deschamps has allowed him to flower and lead

yes. It's really impressive. he stood up to Ferguson as a teenager of course. Mourinho won't break him. Will be very interesting to see what happens when he comes back.

About a year ago or so I was looking at something on Youtube and the next clip loading automatically happened to be with Pogba, one of those behind the scenes the players had recorded themselves, put up on Instagram or whatever, then it had spread.
I probably spent two hours watching clips with Pogba and his team mates from different clubs doing fun things, because Pogba made me smile.

We’ve learnt that plus ça change, plus c’est pire: in 1998, post WC victory, €44 million were given to grassroots football in France (to 2,000 club initiatives and projects), this time it looks like very little, if any, of the €32m given by FIFA will trickle down to the 14,000 French amateur clubs. Ruissellement : le foot amateur attend sa part des 32 millions de la Coupe du monde 2018

Players will get €400K each (they got €250K two years ago as Euro finalists). Some players, possibly feeling embarrassed, have said that they’d give part/most of it to charities and/or their childhood club(s).

There are a couple of things about that.

Firstly, how much Deschamps looks like Marty Crane

Secondly, the impeccable mic techniques used although I expected a drop and at the end

Thirdly, the French news banner underneath appears to call Putin "Poutine" like that Canadian thing.

It's a little known fact that the dish Poutine was invented by a chef in the Montreal Hyatt Regency to serve to the newly anointed president of Russia during a state visit. He (the chef) was actually a Russian emigre who before leaving the USSR had been tortured in the Lubyanka. As a result the dish he prepared to mark the arrival of President Poutine was some old chips he rescued from the bin, smothered in revolting cheese and then drowned in gravy.

Expecting to be fired, he was amazed to find that people actually seemed to like it
