    First Reformed

Written and directed by Paul Schrader

Haven't been so genuinely shocked or moved by a film in a long time. Politics, religion and the politics of religion in the USA. Many critics are seeing it as a companion Taxi Driver- I saw a lot of Schrader's critical work on Bresson. Recommend.

Saw it again. Really appreciated the use of music by Lustmord (as well as some wonderful use of a cappella religious singing) and the performances by Amanda Seyfried and Cedric the Entertainer. Schrader cites his whole oeuvre from Taxi Driver to Mishima and also lots of Bresson and Dreyer too. A film of substance from a man who knows cinema. Second time I heard the gasps from people in the audience.

Just got in from seeing it, really good film. Certainly a few gasps around me at (about) the ending!

I'm delighted someone else has seen it Figs. . yes an astonishing ending. I noticed gasps when I saw it again at the scene in the park. And tears more than once.
