Thirded/fourthed/fifthed/whatever that it's good to see you around here, Rob.

And if St.Murn could please buy Shankland that'd at least stop the bugger scoring any more against us this season. We've seen him twice in a week and are thoroughly sick of the sight of him already...

Glasgow Perthshire isn't much of a ground, so, not a great ground to visit. Thorniewood play in Viewpark just up the road from Uddingston and they're at home to Lesmahagow. Uddingston is a couple of stops out from Glasgow Central and the ground is one of my hidden gems.

If you've got the time you could travel down from Central to the lovely town of Lanark for a local derby with Carluke (about 30 mins). That's a lovely ground in beautiful surroundings.

Celtic have a parachute into the Europa "champions draw", which looks easy enough for them to make the group stages of that one. Not sure if Rangers will get through the more difficult league route where they could meet teams from the bigger leagues.

Either way, they can't really complain about being denied a fair shake, unless they'd be willing to make the Champions League a true Champions League (32 actual champions), which I strongly doubt as the TV companies would not be interested. Their position seems to be "keep out the champions of diddly leagues but don't penalize the champions of mediocre fading ones that used to be quite good."

Re-signing Emilio Izzaguirre is not really going to help.

And whoopsies, losing to Hearts isn't going to help either. (It had to be fucking Lafferty as well.)

Aye, Thorniewood's a cracker. Weirdly, managed over to Lanark today and it's another great one. Lovely old barrel enclosure. great game and a friendly club. Easily reached from Central.

Now 2-1. That makes for a grandstand finish.

Ooh, blood (two AEK defenders just headed each other)

Celtic have been comfortably the more attacking side over the ~85 mins.

And to cap off a miserable night for Celtic their young guns were dumped out of the Diddy Cup, losing 4-0 at Annan Athletic.

We also say goodbye to the holders, with Inverness losing 2-1 at home to Dunfermline, whilst free-scoring Ayr Utd lost on penalties at Queens Park after surprisingly finishing 0-0, although goals-machine Lawrence Shankland did score his penalty.

Round 2 is when the foreign marauders come calling.

Fine first win for The Burgh in the East of Scotland League on Wednesday night duffing Leith Athletc 5-0. Leith one of the stronger Eos teams already in place.

Has to be said that the administration of the EoS is proving excellent compared to the often ramshackle efforts at it in the Juniors. Juniors do appear to have bred the stronger teams though. Premier League next year will be largely former Junior sides.

How do you work this place again?

RobM, horrible news, I hope you're on the mend and listening to doctors attentively.

PaulS, Clydebank are at home on the 1st, playing Kilbirnie in what's already a top of table match. Unfortunately for you the match isn't at the home of football, Yoker's Holm Park, but at Lochburn Park in Maryhill, which also a decent old ground. It's a 2pm kick-off so if the first half is rotten you've still got time to go to Firhill and watch Thistle.

BTW If you plan on going to Kilsyth don't get off the train in Bishopbriggs, stay on to Croy then jump in a taxi or get a bus from there, it's five minutes away.

Paul, listen to a local rather than me. Maryhill's is also a good ground but AMMS directions to Kilsyth will save me leading you astray.

Hibs looking like they're on their way out in Europe, 2-0 down to Molde in Norway.

Lochburn Park is indeed a good wee ground, most notable for its bulky enclosure roof protecting a surprisingly small supporter area on that side:

Managerial turmoil at Livingston - Kenny Miller's been given the boot before his 2-month probationary period is up, meaning no compensation needs to be paid. Just what the hell did he do (or not do) for the board to show him the door so soon?

I would have said Neil McCann would have been the first to go, especially after Dundee's 3-0 hammering at home against Ayr in the League Cup and finishing with 9 men. No wins, poor discipline and a whinging manager. That's not a good combination.

Allegedly Miller and the Livvy board couldn't agree on whether he should continue playing, or concentrate solely on managing.

Miller seems to be an increasingly erratic figure nowadays, and since the Franchise board has a long and inglorious history or being staffed by liars, shysters and rule-dodgers I wouldn't even like to hazard a guess what actually went on.

Was David Hopkin in the frame for a job he didn’t get in the summer or was it just he couldn’t agree a new contract at Livingston?

Not too sure what the circumstances were surrounding David Hopkin's departure; he may have thought he was going to get the Shrewsbury Town gig but that never happened. However he may be interested in the St Mirren job, as that position could become vacant in the next few weeks/months as Alan Stubbs' honeymoon period is now well & truly over.

Another dreadful display, this time at home to Livingston, means we've now gone 3 successive games without scoring. Saturday produced zero shots on target and it's not just alarm bells that are ringing, but a huge fuck-off klaxon. It was always going to be tough taking over from Jack Ross, and like most clubs the side that finished last season was always going to be different from the one that started this season, but Stubbs hasn't helped himself by signing a lot of unknown players from England who appear to be worse than we currently have. That was a tactic old man Tommy Craig employed and we plummeted straight down to the Championship that horrible season.

And now fans favourite, Cammy Smith, has been benched in favour of these new signings and reports from the fans website say he's been told he can find a new club. I knew the feel-good factor wouldn't last, but I didn't expect it to unravel within 3 months!
