You've got to be happy that Shrewsbury have signed the top scorer in the World Cup though?

Seems promising for Wimbledon, as they defeat Brighton 2-1:

Preston North End 2 Burnley 3.
Clarets goals from Aaron Lennon and youngsters Dan Agyei and Dwight McNeil. Both clubs fielded strong sides for the first hour, especially with Burnleys Europa League match with Aberdeen later in the week.

In a friendly (or, I suspect, "friendly") last night Wednesday lost 2-1 to Mansfield, but of more interest was a post final whistle brawl between (mostly it seems) Fernando Forestieri and Krystian Pearce, but developing into a massive scrap with both teams.
So that all seems to point to a positive season ahead

Hull 2 Newcastle 2. As friendlies go, it was actually quite entertaining, played at a decent pace, etc. Evandro for Hull probably the stand-out performer, though Shelvey pinged it about nicely and got a generous round of applause even from the home fans when he was substituted.
One interesting (kind of) thing to note though – it looked to me like they played with an EFL ball in the first half and a Premier League ball in the second, presumably on the request of the clubs. Has anyone seen this before? Are the balls that different that it's worth doing that?

In the first World Cup final the teams couldn't agree on a ball so they played the first half with an Argentine one and the second half with a Uruguayan one. One would have expected somewhat more homogeneous standards to have been developed in the intervening 88 years, though.

The transfer dealing have been more than a little annoying but that is because the club insist on keeping very, very quiet. So the papers are busy filling space with no real comeback from the club to either confirm nor deny. You'll not hear Dyche saying things about a prospective player.
We were linked with Craig Dawson and Jay Rodriguez but didn't want to put £40m West Broms way. Shaquiri, Toure and a.n.other were just paper talk. Apparently we are in for Alfie Mawson but in the absence of anything concrete Fulham have come in as well. More worryingly, Ben Mee is in the last year of his contract. We need centre back cover because I just don't think Kevin Long is up to the job. As for the midfield, the two most creative midfielders in Steven Defour and Robbie Brady missed at least half the season through injury, so getting them back will make a difference. The problem is, they are both injured again and we really need them. Defour and Cork made that midfield tick and Jeff Hendrick is completely useless without Brady.
We might have cashed in on one of Pope or Heaton - you can't keep an England No 1 on the bench for a season. Unfortunately Pope suffered a dislocated shoulder at Aberdeen on Thursday. At the risk of sounding incredibly harsh at least that solves a potential headache.

Modern myth, apparently.
