    Japan v Senegal

Not many were expecting these two to be going into this with three points each. A win for either would mean they would be almost certain to go into the last 16, which would be a god outcome for either of these confederations as, Nigeria aside, they aren't having the best of tournaments.

    Loving the Senegalese warm-up.

*edit - apparently it was yesterday's training session.

Do we know what they are planning to do behind the goals at that Ekaterinburg stadium after the tournament? Put in just something like ten rows of seating, Aviva Stadium style?

Terrible defensive header and decision by the keeper to parry there, shambolic.

I like the way that Senegal are able to take on their opponent at what they are good at, negating their strengths, and then being better than them at the other stuff. Poland were a big powerful team, senegal effortlessly matched them at that, and out did them at the rest. Japan are a well organized disciplined hard working team. Turns out so are Senegal,

Turned on the TV in my hotel to learn that <team name made up of two characters>were a goal behind to <team name made up of 4 characters>

Then had to find a site that wasn't considered to be aiding betting to find out exactly who was actually the team in front

That's a great goal by japan. That came out of nowhere.

Unusual to see Japan scoring in two consecutive games, but I think this is easily the best team they have produced in an overseas World Cup. Senegal are back to their form of 2002.

Incidentally both these teams went out to Turkey in 2002.

Neither of these sides would be a walk over for England or Belgium, but I think they would prefer Japan, who despite playing way above their average would still be the last 16 team most of the European sides would want to face.

If you stick your hand in an opponent's face then, yes, it's a booking.

I fear Japan will come to regret missing that chance

Senegal only scored soft goals in this world cup, said Brian Kerr only five minutes earlier.

Take that one out of the net
