Costa Bra VAR: Brazil v Costa Rica

This match-up was a highlight of 2002 but both these sides are weaker and have less cutting edge than 16 years ago. I expect a laboured Brazil win.

Don't think Neymar's lasting the course here...

Wrestling players to the ground is clearly 'okay' this World Cup...

Minor irritations in football #349: the WHOLE of the ball has to cross the line for a goal. Why not for a throw-in then?

Marcelo in the first game, now it's Thiago Silva. Brazil have decided to rotate captains so what's the verdict OTF? Good or bad idea?

A lot more stray passes from Brazil than you would expect. Costa Rica making no attempt to come out, gambling on 4 points being enough. Not sure how they'll score against the Swiss.

I don't want to see cards but it really feels like there haven't been enough this world cup.

Brazil's second group game at the last World Cup was a 0-0 draw against a CONCACAF team.

Colour me stupid but looking at the subs bench was the first time I realised that Roberto Firminho is Brazilian, for some reason I always had him down as an Argentine

I'm enjoying the pronunciation of Dooglas Costa. When I lived in Toulouse in 98, the landlord had a labrador called Dooglas, and he was keen to tell me it was a Scottish name. His toddler, a lovely lazy, fat, shoeless (cos he had no intention of walking) kid who never cried unless the food ran out was fascinated with my slippers which had pics of dogs on- he used to say 'Doog' and put his finger on them.

Same kid is now a tall, handsome, athletic specimen, who has won regional medals at cycling, rowing and table tennis. I always throw that in when people talk about child obesity.

I'm starting to loathe Costa Rica. They're playing as if one point will be good enough for fu** all. Get the fu**ing 2-5-3 formation in and go for it.

With FIFA's built-in pro-Brazil tendencies, they're probably right to stick with a point
