Have we mentioned once more that Nike can fu** off after telling the Iranian players they should find other shoes, when the Iranians were fully aware of the sanctions and hadn't asked Nike to remind them of the stupidity?

I don't see Iran going for it even if/when they go a goal down. They'll see this game as damaged limitation and try and get something out of Portugal.

That would be madness. If Iran only draw this game then they would need to beat Portugal, knowing that Spain are going to hump the by then already eliminated Morocco. Their best chance is to go for it tonight, albeit on the break.

Can a penalty be awarded against a keeper who feigns injury in his own box? Clutching at straws i know but i can't see a goal from any other avenue.

As a fan of anti-football being played in the right environment, I am loving this performance from Iran.

if Iran had missed a fourth minute penalty, this would be a re-run of the 2008 cl semi final first leg between barcelona and man utd. This game is every bit as gloriously dull.

It's not dull, it's fascinating. Can Spain break Iran down? What's not fascinating about that?

Anyway. Boycott remains in effect. Am I allowed to comment?

They know nothing of the sort. Do you not think Morocco would be well up for taking Spain home with them? If they don't it won't be for want of trying.

Not sure how well the Iranian totty-cam will go down in Tehran.

Spanish commentary team, which includes the very shouty jose antonio camacho, getting edgy.

Pique's gotta stop being the one in the spot to put these chances away.
