Had never heard of Laos till I hit my twenties, when I started to work with the sort of people who had gone travelling in their gap years. Every single one of them seemed to have gone to Laos, and would never shut up about it.

How? It is attached to Indonesia. Is Indonesia part of Oceania too?

I would expect us to go by more sensible continent definitions than FIFA's. Otherwise I would nominate Australia as Asia's most forgotten country, since noone will ever mention Australia when asked to list as many Asian countries as possible.

All of New Guinea is part of Oceania, so part of Indonesia is in Oceania, although he majority of the country is in Asia.

                                  Not a country!

Brunei for me, or the Marshall Islands.

So West Papua AKA Irian Jaya is Indonesia, but Oceania?

It's really a shame that when Laos is mentioned, first thing I think of are those neck rings the Kayan women wear which extends their neck in a unhealthy manner.
Bhutan (and Nepal) are dream destinations for me.

The Marshall Islands are definitely not in Asia.

If we're doing Oceania we'll be here all day. Niue? Palau? The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands?

For the reasons pebble states, Laos is not a serious candidate here.

I've been to Brunei! Just wanted to throw that in there cos I'm such a stay at home schmuck in general, its my one claim to being well travelled.

Tajikistan is probably the lesser-known Stan.
