Will the world cup be over when these games take place?

      No

The Final is on 15 July, four to five days after the first legs of the First Round.

The Preliminary Round is during the heart of the tournament

Too right it is - and the Europa league is the same, I might have to miss England v Belgium to go to Cefn Druids v. Trakai.

How on Earth do Ludogorets have a higher co-efficient than Celtic?

              By winning more games?

(They did something silly like win every game in the Europa League group stage a few years back, and have been in the CL group stages a couple of times (for which they'll have needed to win a bunch of qualifiers)

I just thought that Celtic's usual/fairly regular limping into the group stages would have trumped Europa league performances. Not that I actually give a shit, but the coefficients are always a mystery (beyond a chip-on-shoulder sense of 'the rich always wins')

About 40% of Ludogorets' current coefficient is due to their remarkable run in the 13-14 Europa League, when they topped their group with five wins and a draw and then beat Lazio (winning in Rome). However, this is the last season for which that performance will mean anything for ranking purposes.

Celtic, on the other hand, just don't win that many games in Europe outside of preliminary and qualifying rounds of the Champions League, which no longer count for ranking purposes.

Aren't they also suffering due to other Scottish clubs being shit?

Not really vis-a-vis Ludogorets, who have a similar issue with other Bulgarian sides.

Yes, vis-a-vis clubs from much stronger countries.

Amongst the other changes this season, the club coefficients have been changed. Previously a coefficient would be made up of the points earned by the club in the five previous seasons plus 20% of their countries ranking. From this season seeding is based on the greater of either the club's points over the previous five seasons OR 20% of the country ranking.

Points from qualification rounds do still count, but only if a team fails to make the group stage of either tournament.

How are Europa points weighted versus CL points? A Europa group game might be easier than a CL qualifier.

Red Star Belgrade's er, star has certainly fallen. But they were the army team under the old Yugoslav regime weren't they? Or have I confused myself?

Winning a Europa League game earns you the same as winning a Champions League game. However sides qualifying for the group stage of the Champions League get four bonus points and those qualifying for the last 16 get another five bonus points.

Sits - Partizan were the army team

No regionalisation in the CL after all so it's off to the (red and) Black Sea for the Hatchetmen:

Razgrad isn't on the Black Sea. That's a bit like saying a match in Sheffield takes place on the North Sea

Jump in the Sheaf and you'll float there soon enough

Crusaders (as recent regular entrants in these early rounds) invited fans to register for chartered air travel to the away venue, before the draw. The cost is £200 per person. I'll stick to the home leg though

Average July temperature in Yerevan is 26C. Record high is 42C. Around 10C higher than Glasgow on both counts.

If Crusaders lose in CL R1 they will play the loser of Ljubljana v Qarabag above in EL R2

Drita have become the first Kosovar club to win a European tie, beating FC Santa Coloma of Andorra 2-0 aet in the semi final of the Champions League preliminary round. They go onto Friday's final against either La Fiorita of San Marino or Gibraltar's Lincoln Red Imps; these two play later this evening.
