Sky choose the slightly longer version of the new name.

Well at least Villa can forget briefly about their off field shenanigans by cruising to a comfortable opening day win against a City team that will no doubt consist of Eric Lichaj, Dean Windass, countless 17 year olds and me and my mum.

Seriously, put everything you own on us to go down. It's as inevitable as a celebrity death after an Aaron Ramsey goal.

    Bolton still in bother then.

PLAYERS at Bolton Wanderers are boycotting tomorrow’s friendly against St Mirren because of unpaid wages and bonuses.

A statement issued from the squad via The Bolton News this evening states players have taken a stand over what they feel is “totally unacceptable” treatment from the club.

It read: “Due to circumstances beyond our control, we as a team have decided with deep regret we will not be playing tomorrow’s game against St Mirren.

“We have been put in an impossible positon which has forced our decision, and we would like to explain our reasons why.

“Over the past two seasons we as a club have experienced unprecedented success in first achieving promotion to the Championship, then staying in the league last season.

“This was achieved despite extremely difficult circumstances. All players, current and past, who were contracted to the club have contributed to this success.

“Over the course of the two years on numerous occasions contracted players have not been paid on time. This has culminated in certain players not receiving their June wage.

“On each occasion this has happened we have received no notification or an explanation as to why. We feel this is totally unacceptable after a huge effort from everybody over the last two seasons.

“Regrettably, as a group, this has led to the decision. We unreservedly apologise to any supporters that have made plans to come and watch the game.”

Wanderers issued the following statement, confirming the fixture has now been cancelled.

"Bolton Wanderers Football Club can confirm that Saturday’s friendly game against St Mirren has been called off.

"The football club would like to apologise for any inconvenience this will cause."

Darnell Furlong out until November with (another) knee injury. To say our defence needs work is a gross understatement.

Great business by Brentford selling John Egan to Sheffield United for a Blades club record of £4m and Florian Josefzoon to Derby for about £3m. Both good players but it’s more than paid for our pre-purchased, younger replacements, Ezri Konsa and Saed Benrahma.

Now if only we can hold off the rest of the predators until August 9th.

Rumours that we will be signing Tim Krul on a free. Despite his injuries, that would be a real bonus.

Bristol City signed Mo Eisa from us yesterday for a club record sale of £1m rising up to £1.5m based on clauses, etc....

Mo was quality for us last season in his first season in professional football, 25 goals in a poor team is not to be sniffed at. Whether he can make the step up though, I'm not so sure. The Championship may well be one step too far. I hope not though, would really love for him to be a big success.

Also, it's extremely commendable how he has acted this summer. From January onwards there has been talk of him being scouted and a big money move being made this summer. He has come back for pre-season and played in the games simply getting his head down - he's scored 5 of our 7 goals in pre-season including a hat-trick against Cirencester. He hasn't once pushed for a move and trusted the club when told he could go if our valuation has been met.

A lot of footballers tend to do thank you messages on social media these days when they leave clubs, but having read Mo Eisa's, you get the feeling he's being genuine in every way.

Sky have shifted Wednesday v Leeds to a Friday night. Surprised the police have allowed that - last time they tried this was when Kirkland got assaulted by that dickhead. Ever since then all of Leeds' visits have been given a lunchtime kick off.

First two games are on the telly for Frank Lampard's Derby.

Personally expecting a load more, which is good for me but bad in general for actual match-going people.

Some Blokes Stoke have signed Tom Ince for £12m. What is the point? Everyone knows what they'll get by now.

And the strange thing is that Rowett should know exactly what he’s getting.

I rather liked Ince at pre-Frank Lampard's Derby County, thought he got a lot of stick off our fans for who his father is as well as for more horrible reasons.

Though sympathy somewhat tempered when we discovered that his mum was paid close on a million quid for 'scouting services' to the club, the only report submitted suggested that we go for Mbappe and Dembele (soon after transferred for over £250m)

Any flair type player should be a tad worried about playing under Rowett though based on what we saw for close on 18 months.

(Sigh) Wednesday have announced their ticket prices for the season, which are as abhorrent as usual. Thirty nine quid for Hull (Hull!) in the opening home game of the season for a start. They've also whacked club membership up from fifty to ninety quid. The extra benefits are a "members day" (Preston the Saturday before Christmas) where its ten quid for members and a rather convoluted discount scheme in the club shop where there are up to £180 to be made in savings if you spend £720. Said offer is not applicable when buying replica kit, however. Our shop is notoriously rubbish, as someone said on Twitter "if you've spent £720 in the shop not on kit what on earth did you buy?"

Aston Villa have decided not to go ahead with the starfucking appointment of Thierry Henry and taken the far more sensible decision of retaining the services of Steve Bruce. This is probably the least Villarey thing Villa have done in a decade.
