    Minor Name Variations

Marc Bolan sometimes signed the surname with an umlaut https://www.betweenthecovers.com/det...?record=395771

Keith Richards/Richard (the 's' was apparently dropped in 1963 at the instigation of Andrew Loog Oldham, reinstated in the late 70s)*

John Lennon officially changed his middle name to Ono.

One of the Bs in ABBA was sometimes reversed https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold:_Greatest_Hits

*I thought this happened to Wendy Richard too but cannot find any evidence of it. However she appears to have been credited as "Wendy Richard MBE" in her last sitcom role https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1224160...=tt_cl_sm#cast. A bit like the vanity titles of knights, Sir Paul Thumbsaloft, etc.

Pete Wylie is obviously the king of this:

    Wah!
    The Mighty Wah!
    Wah! Heat
    Shambeko! Say Wah!

I've probably (no... DEFINITELY) left out at least 37,286,354,109,354,856 variations.

      Jim 'JG' Thirlwell, similarly:

      Scraping Foetus Off The Wheels
      Foetus Under Glass
      Clint Ruin
      Frank Want
      Philip Toss
      ...and various others.

Many bands who began in the 60s lost the definite article from their names as their hair headed south e.g. The Status Quo, The Pink Floyd etc.

Also many artists tried for greater acceptance by issuing records under their real names rather than established stage names. e.g. Scott Walker as Noel Scott Engel, Bobby Vee as Robert Velline, Del Shannon as Charles Westover.

          ...also the oft-mentioned-on-these-pages John Mellencamp.

Which LPs did he release under that name?

Was Wah Heat! The first version? I remember reading that the name came from when Wylie cycled round on a scorching hot day to where Julian Cope was living with his mum and when Mrs Cope answered the door to him he was so shattered by the ride all he could say was “Wah, Heat!”

The original release of "Scott 4" Subsequent reissues have been credited to Scott Walker.

Billy Childish likes a good AKA both personally and in band name variations, more than I know or could list. Where the line between spin-offs, variations and collaborations should be drawn - who can say?

Curiosity Killed the Cat relaunched themselves as Curiosity, as did New Kids on the Block (as NKOTB). Neither set the world alight.
