This started it. As a Leeds supporter, you get used to not having the greatest of press but that particular article is up there with David Lacey's Billy Bremner obituary in seeming to me a bit unhinged in its hatred. Ever since, as with the Froome article, I've been struck by a mean-spiritedness to a proportion of his writing.

Williams was quite sympathetic to Leeds in this 2002 article. Sadly, much of the piece was utter nonsense (much as I always disliked Hammam myself) which he only partly retracted a week later.
