Thanks for the report AE, a pity you didn’t see better games but it’s almost a tribute to how serious the tournament is taken that things get edgy and nervy when there really is something at stake. Good to hear the atmosphere and occasion lived up to the rest of the tournament though.

So, where is the next one? 2020 isn’t it?

I didn’t realise Kárpátalja‘s keeper Bela Fejer actually saved three penalties in the shootout, add that to his pivotal double save from a penalty in the semi-final then he’s a good bet for man of the tournament.

Exactly that Ray, both sides obviously wanted to win. The lack of urgency shown by the Turkish Cypriots until it was too late was so similar to the Turkey national side. The schedule may also have had some impact, 5 games in 8 days is demanding for any player.

I'd again like to big up the level and standard of the tournament, teams came to play proper football and not boot it long, even when under pressure.

Actually 6 games in 10 days, I'd imagine they were knackered. I think Kárpátalja were missing a couple of forwards through injury in the Final, which didn't help.

Managed to tick off 3 grounds yesterday, Aveley, Haringey Borough and Enfield Town, Enfield was the only grass pitch I saw in the tournament.

There's a CONIFA "Euros" next year.

It was in Hungary in 2015 and Northern Cyprus in 2017.

I didn't see any of the images from the final until yesterday, Kárpátalja did well to defy the God of Kits by despite being forced to wear a rather mismatched set of blue shorts :

I was daft enough to go to the last CONIFA World Cup in Abkhazia, where I wrote extensively about it.

I was hoping to go to plenty of games this year, but this years mad football trip was to watch some Rwandan top flight games, so I on;y got to see a placement game at Haringey Borough, then the Final at Enfield.

Here's the missed penalty that handed Kárpátalja the trophy.

Someone mentioned doing two games in a day. I've done this several times, both here and abroad, most notably in Istanbul, where I saw two games on two continents on one day.

On said trip to Rwanda last month I missed a connecting flight in Istanbul so had to spend about 20 hours there. I really couldn't be arsed, but if I had caught a boat to the Asian side of the Bosporus (I was staying in Europe), then took my flight to Kigali, I would have visited three continents in one day. But alas I didn't.

They are holding their European Championships this summer but it seems like the trip to Azerbaijan is putting teams off.

Chameria was new, and I thought myself well up on my unrecognised states.

Szekelyfold have been rubbish. After a good world cup last year. I suspect the difficult run in for Csikszereda in the league has sapped the strength and motivation
