Now it seems that the FA will also promote the 'best' (based on points per game) losing play-off finalist to get the numbers right (as Thurrock have folded). The two best play-off teams (in terms of PPG) are us and Hartley Wintney. So if we both get through the to play-off final, both teams will be promoted, regardless of the result. Eh? That would be a pointless game.

But if Hartley Wintney get knocked out in their semi-final, we would also be guaranteed promotion if we win our semi-final, regardless of the result of the final, as our PPG is better than the other teams'.

And how fair PPG is when the leagues have different numbers of teams and games played is another question entirely. Greenwich Boro have a worse PPG than us, but have played 4 games more.

Yeah, I don't think there's much danger of H&Y lodging a protest about this! Would be oh-so-typical for us to lose the semi-final now. No, must not be pessimistic - we are going to win our semi-final, and I'm going to be there on the 7th to see us get promoted <repeat to fade...>.

              Kings Lynn: 34-66
              Weymouth: 39-61
              Kettering: 39-61

Bah, even more reason to be disappointed Royston* could only finish sixth(ish) in the end.
              * - assumed. North Herts was 54-46.

The National League North playoffs are almost set. The two teams with byes to the semi finals will be Harrogate and Brackley, while Kidderminster and Stockport are certain to be in the qualifying round. There's quite a lot of congestion, points-wise, around the playoff places in all three of the NL divisions, so we could get some lower-placed teams going up.

"Congestion" is putting it mildly in NL North where Boston United could still ultimately get promoted even though they are 11th going into the final round of games tomorrow.

I looked up Slough in Google news to see what you might be on about and can anyone tell me why this story is in the Slough & South Bucks Observer?:

I think it's more that the story has been wrongly tagged to appear there as the rest of their football news is very specifically local.

Frickley are both a yo-yo club trying to keep up the standards of when they were supported by a mining community (South Elmsall) and fucked around by being on the boundary between North and South.

Haringey Borough v Heybridge promises to be a spicy affair.

They've met three times already this season. The first meeting, in the Fourth Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, saw Heybridge run out 4 - 2 winners in front of a then record crowd. Their first meeting in the league was abandoned after Boro's Ralston Gabriel reacted to being spat at twice by Heybridge horrible bastard Joan Luque. Heybridge put out a statement saying the video evidence was "conclusive". The FA agreed, slapping Luque with an eight-game ban.

The final meeting, at the beginning of the month, saw Boro race into a three goal lead, before being pegged back in fifteen second half minutes. Both teams ended the season very strongly - Haringey have dropped only four of the last 30 available points, Heybridge, five.

So, if I have this right...

                                      National League
                                      Tranmere v Aldershot or Ebbsfleet
Sutton v Boreham Wood or Fylde

                                      National League North
                                      Harrogate v Stockport or Chorley
Brackley v Kidderminster or Bradford PA

                                      National League South
Dartford v Hemel Hempstead or Braintree
Chelmsford v Hampton & Richmond or Truro

National League North is hard to call, except that Harrogate and Brackley start with big advantages. Will be interesting to see if the teams who get the byes nearly always supply the eventual winners.

How long is the rest period between semi and final?

A full week between semi and final. I'd make Harrogate big favourites, just having to win 2 games on their 3G. Finished the season on precisely 100 goals from 42 games. They'll take some stopping. If anyone's going to come out of the qualifying round and pull off a shock my money would be on Kidderminster. Got a sneaky feeling they may make the final.

Premier Division - we knew the teams but not the order -
                                              King's Lynn Town versus Weymouth
                                              Slough Town versus Kettering Town

I think it'll be Harrogate too. If this was League Two you'd fancy Bradford PA after that late run and injury time winner to secure 7th, but under this format it's probably too tall an order to win three away games.

It was noticed that Harrogate's website was selling tickets to the semi-final in the home areas from 10am yesterday until 5pm Wednesday, with 50p event protection insurance. As 500 away tickets would be like gold dust if we got there, they may have already sold quite a few of these to County fans, and could be facing a lot of cancelled tickets on Thursday morning. They realised at about 3pm and turned off the insurance option!

Doesn't appeal to me though, I'd rather miss out altogether than watch with the wrong fans, after a depressing experience at Crewe in 94. I'll probably go to Dartford, especially if they end up playing my dad's hometown of Hemel.
