I read Kate Crehan, Gramsci's Common Sense, last week and thought it was very good, albeit rather repetitive. It particularly cleared up some issues regarding the concept of "organic intellectuals" that had previously confused me. But I remain uncertain about whether Gramsci was an optimist or pessimist.
