HAC shouldn’t have to go back. I’d send them into the barrage sur tapis vert

It's laughable, isn't? I mean, the LFP (authorities) have all the evidence in their possession (it was even filmed) to impose strict sanctions and all they said this morning in this hastily convened meeting was: "Oh well, it happened outside the stadium so AC Ajaccio aren't responsible", not even a fine or the game played behind closed doors.

I've also been reading about some shocking stuff that happened at Bastia last week vs Sedan last Saturday (not SC Bastia - who were demoted to the fifth tier of French football from the top flight last year as I'm sure you're aware) but Furiani-Agliani in National 2 (fourth tier), I'll post them in a short while.

We're starting to know more about what happened to the Le Havre group (players & staff) on Thursday when they arrived in Ajaccio. According to a Le Havre player (anonymous) interviewed by a Normandy radio, the objective of the Corsican ultras was to intimidate them before the game (one leg, no return game), in the hope that they would be destabilised or something.

The moment the Le Havre squad arrived at their hotel on Thursday, the Ajaccio ultras were there waiting for them. They then made lots of noise, threw firecrackers and flares outside their windows, generally made a nuisance of themselves, hurled insults and issued death threats too but that goes without saying. In short, everything was attempted to unsettle the Le Havre players. Then, we know what happened when the Le Havre bus arrived at the stadium.

From the daily Paris-Normandie website (paywall but the full text is findable on the Net):

          http://www.paris-normandie.fr/sport/...cio-OB13032509

              Here it is...

Serious incidents last week in the Furiani-Agliani (a Bastia suburb) vs Sedan-Ardennes game too in National 2 (fourth tier). The match had to be abandoned at half-time, the Sedanais refusing to resume play as their feared for their safety.

The appalling series of incidents started at 4.30pm when the Sedan players arrived at the stadium. Some threatening-looking Furiani supporters were loitering near the Sedan dressing-room (how did they get in there?), insulted the Sedan players and even hit them (according to the Sedanais).

After the warm-up, more incidents (threats and insults to Sedan players).

First half was played in a tense atmosphere but without any incident of note.

At half-time, the final straw: several Furiani supporters/ultras AND some Furiani players threatened the Sedan players in the corridor leading to their dressing-room (according to some Sedan players, knives were produced by some ultras). An altercation broke out and some Sedan players were injured. The ref and officials were present, and the ref decided to expel one Sedan player (!) and one Furiani member of staff.

The Sedan players refused to resume the game and immediately called the police to ensure their protection in exiting the stadium safely there and then.

              http://www.lunion.fr/91468/article/2...sion-des-faits

The report of the incidents from the Sedan camp is quite damning (unsurprisingly, a very different – and laconic – version was given by Furiani):

              http://www.foot-national.com/foot-se...ni-107418.html

                Marseille Bribery Scandal. http://www.europeancuphistory.com/bribe.html

On May 20, 1993, Marseille took on Valenciennes in a French League match. With a European Cup final against Milan coming up less than a week later, victory would mean that Marseille retained the French League championship without the need to get a result against title rivals Paris St Germain in their final game. An easy victory would also help the team in their preparations for the big game ahead.

                […]

Valenciennes player Jacques Glassman revealed that he had been in the same hotel room as two of his teammates, Christophe Robert and Jorge Burruchaga, when they had been called by Marseille player Jean-Jacques Eydelie and offered bribes which they accepted to take it easy in the forthcoming match.

Eydelie subsequently claimed that he was acting on the instructions of club general secretary Jean-Pierre Bernes. The wife of Christophe Robert claimed that she had collected the money from Eydelie. Police later discovered 250,000 francs buried in the garden of Robert’s mother-in-law.
For our many innumerable Francophone readers on here , this is a good Long Read:

Le Havre just taken the lead at Ajaccio, 2-1 in extra time with 10 minutes to go.

                  https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/match/427704

Ajaccio down to 10 men. No particular incident so far apart from a few supporters invading the pitch a few minutes ago but they were quickly contained.

Just this minute, Le Havre player also sent off (he had needlessly taunted the public, FFS…).

Fucking hell, 2 other players sent off, I’m losing track of how many are left on each side, 9 each I think. Match interrupted by the ref, it's getting seriously heated.

Hadn’t realised but Le Havre keeper is Yohann Thuram-Ulien, Lilian Thuram’s cousin.

Game has resumed after Ajaccio staff have "posé une réserve technique" (= Le club peut déposer une réserve technique lorsqu'il pense que l'arbitre a commis une erreur en prenant une décision non conforme aux lois du jeu.), which is to lodge an appeal of some sort.

They'll go out to Toulouse next week, not to worry.

I was listening to Max-Alain Gradel (ex Leicester, Leeds & Bournemouth, now TFC) this morning on a French sports radio, he was furious against PSG for having (in his opinion) eased off vs Caen last night, so the Toulousains will be fired up vs the Corsicans on Wednesday and Sunday. It's a two-legged affair too so it'll be more difficult for Ajaccio.

Actually, Gradel is still Bournemouth, he's only been loaned to Toulouse but still, given how pissed off he is at PSG I'm sure he'll give his all next week. Excellent player, great mentality. It didn't quite work out for him at Bournemouth because of injuries (he did his cruciate in) but he is underrated IMO.

Chairman of Le Havre (who was watching game from the stands) kicked in the back and missile thrown in his direction, according to Agnès Firmin, a Normandy MP who was there with the Le Havre staff and who was quite shocked at what she saw. Plenty of insults (racist and otherwise) during the game from the stands etc. Got too dangerous for the Le Havre staff and security extracted them from the stands.

Le Havre asking the LFP (football authorities) to declare the result null and void and award them the victory. They have of course used the official channel to lodge their appeal and have listed their 8 reasons on Twitter, below. Looks like they have a solid case after yesterday’s shambles of a match and the many irregularities (authorities can’t hide anymore behind the pathetic “Ah, it didn’t happen in the stadium, sorry” excuse of the first postponed game on Friday evening):

The LFP (football authorities) is taking the piss big time. They’ve just said that they would examine the matter… Thursday evening, so after the Ajaccio-Toulouse first-leg play-off (Wednesday).

I can just imagine their findings… (a fine for Ajaccio, maybe a stadium suspension or a behind-closed-doors sanction for a few games at the beg. of next season and basta). They’re already hugely downplaying the incidents, making out that it’s just a game "that degenerated". It was so much more than that of course (assault on the Le Havre chairman in the stands, racist insults, clear irregularities on the pitch during and after the game etc. as listed by Le Havre on Twitter) and they know it but for political reasons, they won’t budge. The bastards totally fucked tiny Luzenac a few seasons ago, but that’s OK to do that to Luzenac because they are a speck of a village club (pop: 650) lost in some remote Pyrenees valley with no clout whatsoever.

Fabien Barthez's Luzenac AP denied entry into Ligue 2 after promotion, relegated to seventh tier

Couldn’t they have convened a meeting for tomorrow? (like they did Saturday morning post Friday eve incidents).

At fucking last, the LFP has realised the seriousness of the situation and the uproar it is causing in France and has moved forward their meeting to tomorrow morning.

That or Édouard Philippe (Prime Minister and mayor of Le Havre before being appointed PM last year, and close to Agnès Firmin-Le Bodo, the MP present in the Ajaccio stands) has waded in. I don’t think so but who knows.

Have you noticed the black band on the HAC badge on their Twitter avatar?

I only noticed it after the cancelled match, but might it be for another reason?

                                                It's for this reason: https://www.ouest-france.fr/sport/fo...a-diop-5685732

It's been there since mid-April (see Tweet sent on 12 April, last Tweet in the article, below):

Ah, I had forgotten about Diop.

                                                  Such a season for them.

Le Havre "débouté" (and "dégoûté" no doubt – gutted), their request has been dismissed. Ajaccio-Toulouse will be played behind closed doors at Montpellier La Mosson (tomorrow night).

                                                    http://www.france24.com/en/20180522-...-empty-stadium

                                                    http://www.lfp.fr/corporate/article/...-la-lfp-61.htm

Le Havre have appealed but forget it, they'll get nowhere. The decision comes with a few (perfunctory) sanctions for Ajaccio though, but very little considering the seriousness of the incidents and the technical infringements to the Law of the Game on the pitch on Sunday eve, like when the ref sent off (one of 5 sending-offs) the Ajaccio manager… for the later to reappear in the penalty shoot-out and brief his players on the pitch. Still, 3 major Ajaccio players suspended (+ the manager) for the game vs Toulouse tomorrow (due to the red cards), that should really hurt the Corsicans.

This request by Le Havre yesterday has at least had the merit of setting the wheels of justice in motion (sod all would have happened otherwise) and the Ajaccio prosecutor is apparently taking an interest in the many incidents that occurred on Friday and Sunday (racist abuse, bus attacked, the assault on the American chairman-owner of Le Havre etc.).

As anticipated then, I knew the LFP wouldn’t have the balls to penalise Ajaccio. They paid lip service to the Le Havre request by bringing forward the meeting but that was because they were under pressure to do so, in reality, they had no intention to examine the matter fairly. And as I wrote yesterday, part of this decision is political, the "dossier Corse" is too "chaud" (politically-charged) at the moment, so they’re treading carefully especially after the firm rebuke that the nationalist-autonomist coalition who runs the island got from Macron in February. The LFP had the choice between the fair route and the easy one, and they took the latter.

What is it with those French play-offs all being played being closed doors, eh? Grenoble-Bourg Peronnas at the minute, behind closed doors too following the serious incidents at Stade des Alpes last week (Grenoble playing for promotion to D2, Bourg to stay up in D2, Grenoble leading 1-0 at half-time).
