It's about 5° at this precise moment. It will get down to zero or below overnight. This weekend it's forecast to snow again. But winter feels basically over. After that icy blast that the whole of Europe got ten days ago we've had a week of warm days getting up to about ten. That's probably slightly unseasonably warm (like the - 15 that preceded it was unseasonably cold)

No need to update this for a while. I haven't been up to see the snowman in the last week or so, but since in that time it hasn't got above zero, and the last few days it has snowed pretty heavily (today being particularly mad, much off Romania has ground to a halt), I can assure everyone that he is still there.

This is the main square of the town taken from my office window. They are setting up stalls for the "spring fair". Note how much snow there is on the car in the foreground

Just so you know when to start celebrating, EIM, you'll be closer than Duncan if the snowman makes it past Friday 26 October.

I'm guessing DG is anticipating a mega bonfire on eleventh night which gets a touch out of control and melts a snowman 3000km away.

If winter goes on until October I fear that I'll have ended it all by then, and therefore won't be in a position to keep tabs on the snowman

Yeah, but this time of the year, it looks like that at breakfast and you're mowing your lawn by dinner time. I'm still confident in my May two-four guesstimation.

Do we have an adjudicator on what is the original snowman, and what is Johnny come lately snow.

I think that's covered under the 'force majeure' / Act of God clause; along with uncharacteristic changes in temperature, hurricanes, unseasonal rains, etc.

The new non compacted snow will melt weeks before the base of the snowman.

Anyway despite the cold and the snow it's beginning to look a bit weak

I'm going to be away from April 8th until 18th which I suspect is likely to be around the time that things will get "exciting". I am going to have to persuade one of my kids. "Yes you see I need you to go and take pictures of what's left of that snowman because a bunch of people, the majority of whom I've never met, really care about when it's gone"

Well, that's an interesting spin on "I've single-handedly created a lottery with no odds, no stakes and no prize that's drawn worldwide interest and attention to our little village of Godknowswhere".
