Audi Pardners! The 2018 MLS Thread

You need a new one, so this former DC United fan who ruefully observed the city's soccer stadium snafu for 15 and a half years is kicking it off for y'all. Hats off to jefe for continuing to explain to us that the Minnesota Manalishi acquired Buzz Tripper from the Vegas Crapshoot using unquantified allocation money that for some reason actually belongs to the Montreal Mooseshaggers; a 2027 sixth round draft pick; and three cases of beef jerky past their sell-by date, but probably still okay if eaten by the end of this week.

My tip for the title: no idea. Who hasn't had a turn yet?

For continuity's sake: "FAO AG: You have the most interesting winter friendly: TFC V Xolos de Tijuana in San Diego.

Also, you're getting an indoor team in Missisauga next fall.

Landon Donovan seems to unretiring to play for Leon in Mexico.

The Washington Spirit are looking into playing a game at Audi Field in August."

And Landon's wearing number 20. Troll, epically done.

      Houston signs a Venezuelan defender.

Rimando and Beckerman re-sign with RSL, of whom Michael Eisner says he looked into purchasing before buying Portsmouth.

USL has officially gotten division 2 sanctioning from the USSF, and they have until 2020 to fix the things for which they've been granted waivers.

Besiktas announced they'd signed Cyle Larin on a free. They posted pictures of his presentation and medical and everything. Orlando's response was, we have 2 years of contract options on him, he signed a piece of paper acknowledging that they do in fact exist (instituted after the Camilo to Miga MX disaster), see you in court. Larin's response is to sue MLS. This is gonna be fun.

I am barely able to watch so much as one MLS game per season down here, between not many of them being televised and my girlfriend not going to bed quite early enough most of the time, but I will make one prediction: assuming the deal to take him to Atlanta United goes through, Ezequiel Barco is going to tear shit up. Shame we don't have any Atlanta fans on here (do we?) who can enjoy him.

And in Sam-ish news, SKC loans in defender Emiliano Amor from Velez Sarsfield.

Loudon County gov't voted to approve DCU's complex.

LAFC sign Steven Beitashour, Houston re-signs Run DMB.

Orlando paid $6M+ for the Paraguyan 19yr old playmaker they wanted.

USL says they'll announce their first 3rd division team for 2019 tomorrow.

Huge NWSL trade-Carli Lloyd to Jersey, San Kerr to Chicago, Christen Press to Houston.

Chicago trades David Accam to Philly for $1.2M in allocation money.

DC couldn't sign a homegrown they really wanted, so instead trade him to Portland for $200K of allocation money and an international slot. They're also bringing in Sheanon Williams on trial.

Montreal is almost certainly selling Ballou Tabla, probably to Barcelona, and have signed a Chilean MF and a French defender from Ligue 2.

Columbus traded Ola Kamara to LA for Gyasi Zardes and at least $400K of allocation money.

Minnesota traded for Matt Lampson from Chicago.

Toronto re-signed Eriq Zavaleta, and their president Bill Manning is now also president of the Argos.

Lee Ngyuen didn't report to training camp and the Revs are pissed. They're also bringing in as a DP and Ecuadorian on loan from Pachuca, Cristian Penilla. Diego Fagundez meanwhile wants to play for the US when his citizenship is finally firmed up, and Newell's are interested in buying him.

FAO Gero: Freddy Adu's going on trial at Las Vegas Lights.

Galaxy signed Chris Pontius as a free agent; LAFC are importing Honduras' #1 GK from Real Espana.

San Jose bought an American U-20 midfielder from the Cosmos.

Ballou Table officially transferred to Barcelona

Toronto have offered $4.5 for 19 yr old Alexis MacAllister from Argentinos Jrs. to arrive in June.

Houston sold Cubo Torres to Pumas for a rumored $1.9M.

Atlanta sold Carlos Carmona back to Chile to Colo-Colo. His wife's pregnant and he wanted to go home.

Luciano Acosta got his green card to give DCU an extra international slot to play with.

Worst news of the day is that after potential ownership pulled out at the last minute, the Boston Breakers are folder. The Krafts were asked if they wanted the team and declined.

Montreal got over a million for Ballou Tabla, Atlanta $1.5M for Carmona.

MLS changed the transfer rules again. You get $750K, up from $650K of allocation money after you sell someone, and more importantly you get `00% of the fee if you sell one of you homegrowns, as Montreal just did.

Vancouver lost Matias Laba to Estudiantes on a free transfer.

FAO our San Franciscans, current or former: The guy who's putting a USL team in the East Bay is looking at building a 15-18,000 seat stadium on an empty lot a block away from the Concord BART stop, across the street from the police station.

Stupid transfer rumor of the day is Club America looking at Altidore if they can't sign the Argentinian they really want.

I can confirm that there is in fact a large undeveloped lot at that location.

Not large enough for a ground and parking, though.

"The development would include hotels, conference facility, retail, commercial, residential and other uses. To be feasible, the project would include additional properties, including BART owned property, according to the City of Concord."

I think he wants to buy a chunk of BART's parking lot off of them also.

In my experience that BART parking lot is jam packed every week day. Not sure the commuters of Concord and around could afford to lose any of it

Columbus brings in a youth DP left back from Venezuela, and gets $1M+ in allocation money and an international spot for one year from Orlando for Justin Meram.

KC is reported in the English press to have signed a Scottish winger from Derby County, Johnny Russell.

Jack Harrison is being fought over by Middlesborough and Stoke and Man City for several million dollars of transfer fee.

Andrew Wiedeman and Cameron Porter retired.

Indy Eleven are going to pay in the Colts' enormodome.

And Miami is finally finally finally official. Current version is that they and Nashville start in 2020, and the remaining expansion choice starts in 2019. Which essentially makes it Cincinnati or Sacramento.

Colorado's bringing in a defender from Rangers, Danny Wilson.

Armando Cooper leaves TFC for Universidad de Chile.

The Honduran teams left in CCL are having their home games moved out of Honduras due to the unrest. RBNY plays Olimpia in Costa Rica behind closed doors; Motagua v Tijuana at Houston's affiliate in the RGV's stadium.

Dallas loans Anibal Chala to LDU Quito and sends the top allocation slot to Orlando for $400k of allocation dollars. Which Orlando promptly uses to bring in Oriol Rosell from Portugal, the ex-KC player.

Jack Harrison officially transferred to Man City and lent to Middlesbrough til the end of this season.

                                LAFC signs ex-DCU Dejan Jakovic.

The Cyle Larin saga is finally over, he goes officially to Besiktas and Orlando gets to keep the whole transfer fee for their troubles, rather than the usual cut going to HQ.

Atlanta signs Sal Zizzo as a free agent and released Jacob Petersen.

MLS and Liga MX are talking about having the each champion play each other annually.

Jack Harrison? You surely can't get away with a straightforward name like that in US soccer. He's got to be called something like Zak Wonderbug or Buzz Chocwalker.

Jack Harrison is English, but played at a posh prep school in Massachusetts and then in New York. His lack of a proper name is why he had to go back to England.

So how do Miami go about creating a squad for next year (or is it 2020)? And what will the team be called?

There will be an expansion draft in which they can select players from the teams already in the league (with the other teams able to protect a certain number of their squad). They will also be able to select players through the entry draft (for players coming out of college), as all teams do. Otherwise it'll be signing free agents and players via the various Byzantine methods MLS has for signing players (marquee signings are likely to come via these routes).
