I think Gwlad! coined the Monkey Felcher nickname, hence why I thought you were on Gwlad!. I was John Taylor's Muttonchops. The board's actually seen a revival since going to FreeForums, went on there earlier today and there were 35 users logged on at the time. Snedds was a regular user and has now become something of a YouTube star, PhilBB the world's most one-eyed Cardiff fan and several other Welsh rugby internet legends.

Taylor did the World Cup in 2011 and the Lions tour in 2013 on TalkSport radio. I suspect he's in semi-retirement now and doing the PA at Twickenham suits him fine, since he's 73 years old. I have no idea how he managed to remain so good at commentating given the lack of practice, since ITV seemed to only show the Rugby World Cup and he would sit on a shelf for four years between tournaments. He didn't pop up on Sky doing away tours like Bob Symonds did either. Steve Smith wasn't half bad as the pundit too. I can't have been the only person who thought ITV did the punters a disservice by hiring in Miles Harrison (bluergh) and Stuart Barnes (double bluergh, especially these days as he's phoned it in for years) and relegating Taylor to minnow pool games in 2007 before booting him entirely in 2011.

Oh no, Gwlad! is definitely where the Monkey Felcher's name came from but I didn't pick it up directly from there and like to think that's how everyone refers to him. I didn't know it's changed host, the old one was always very clunky which put me off so I may look again, thanks.

It changed hosts a few years ago and became utterly unusable. They've changed to one which has a pretty similar look and feel to the Gwlad of 2003-2012 or so, so it's better.

Great end to the Barbarians v Argentina game. The Pumas 14-28 up at half time and controlling the game but a typically open second half allows the Baa-Baas to pull level at 35-35 and they then nick it with a 79th minute drop goal.

Only the lower tier open at Twickenham unfortunately, they really need to take these games to other venues.

Tickets were surprisingly reasonable, under £30 in some places, but the Baa-Baas lineup was pretty poor. It was a bunch of Springboks plus a few guests. Nowhere near the lineup they had in 2015 when they had a bunch of people staying over after the Rugby World Cup.

I think I'm off to the Varsity Match on Thursday afternoon, though that looks to be another lower tier only affair.

The link upthread is dead, this is the new one:

Is it a wind-up? I'm not on Twitter so I don't know what is authentic, but it's hard to believe David Moffett is quite so batshit crazy ... or is it?

Surely this is a wind up?

This season's European rugby is not going well for the Welsh regions, actually it's reverted to type. Defeats in the main competition and a region doing well in the second tier.

The Scarlets are really feeling the loss of Beirne and Barclay up front. The way things are going they could be whitewashed.

The Blues have a lot of injuries, especially in the backs but they've not looked too bad.

The Ospreys should win their group and progress.

The Dragons are a disaster, it's time for Jackman to go and somebody like Jason Strange to be given a regional head coaching job.

The lack of a verification tick mark and the series of numbers In the handle are hallmarks of a Twitter wind up.

And Jackman goes. The talk is perhaps Ruddock and Strange to take over.

The New Zealand Herald believes it is genuine.

The tweets on the account are becoming more and more extreme, well beyond "normal" conservative rugby chaps in suits.

Whoever currently is coaching has them playing like a right bunch of scumbags. Down to 14 men after a red card in the first half of the first Xmas/NY derby versus Cardiff and they should really have had at least two men sent off. Lots of stray elbows, late and high hits and interfering with the jumper in the line out.

The Blues still managed to contrive to go from 3-0 up to 3-6 down after the red card but have just managed to go 13-6 up in a low quality game played in filthy conditions. Watching on S4C who aren’t offering their usual English commentary option “for contractual reasons” which I presume relate to the Premier Sports deal. They do have a mic on Blaine Scully though which is proving very entertaining.

Cardiff scrape a 19-16 win with Anscombe converting a typically opaque scrum penalty with the clock in the red. Low quality stuff all round.

Edwards was shown in the crowd, though that may be on Wales business of course.

Dave Ward of Harlequins shows how to get away with a neck roll, stamp and spit. His club ban him for a game and it's all forgotten. Joe Marler has also forgotten he's retired from international rugby by attacking up in the same game to earn little ban.

The club are saying there was no deliberate gobbing involved.

Three months after getting concussion versus Australia and Leigh Halfpenny is again ruled out after seeing a specialist, it's another month. He nearly played in the Christmas derbies as well so this isn't looking good.

Ben John of the Ospreys took a sabbatical to try to recover from his concussion but couldn't and has now announced his retirement.

I cannot find the link but a fourth rugby player in France has died following a tackle.

Yet old pros are still saying the game is going soft. It's pretty clear something needs to be done regarding this and it needs to be radical or else more lives will be ruined.

The something that needs to be done includes sanctioning players like Samu Kerevi whose late hit with his shoulder to Halfpenny's head caused the latest bout of concussion and went completely unpunished - breaking the new protocols (ignored by the "old pros" here but thankfully raised by Butler) :

I've tried to add video here but not sure how to on the new board.

A good argument on the field of play that the Pro14 is currently the strongest European league - all Irish provinces looking good for Champions Cup progression, and both Scottish clubs well placed to follow them.
