Ignoring the archaic silliness of the whole thing, Marc Almond getting an OBE seems reasonable. Bit harsh on Dave Ball, mind.

"simple achievement of stayin' alive" would seem to apply to Ringo and to Barry Gibb. There must be some non-knighted British musicians still alive who have made greater contributions than simply being the 4th member of the country's greatest band who hardly ever wrote, arranged or sang lead on any of its work.

Maybe Brenda is a Back Off Boogaloo fan?

Hang on, Barry Gibb is a stone-cold songwriting genius.

The whole gongs thing is a load of bollocks, obviously, but if anyone deserves knighting for services to pop, it's him.

If it were the UK National Honours, that would work, wouldn't it?

Never mind Gibb or Ringo, just what the hell has Fucking Nick Fucking Clegg done to deserve a gong? If we're using archaic methods of rewarding someone for their actions, he warrants putting in the stocks, not knighting.

Ringo Starr? Not even the best drummer in the honours list, etc.

There was a MBE for one of the Southport defenders in the team that got relegated from Division Three in 1970. However I believe Eric Harrison's award was more for his youth coaching work at Manchester United.

Openly bribing people to keep you in your job. It’s the modern British way.

You talking about Nick Clegg, or the honours system in total?

                            From the BBC:
Officials said future lists would see honours for "inspirational action" by people following the Grenfell Tower fire and the terror attacks in London and Manchester.
Translates as "Shit, we're so far detached from the real world that we never considered people who have to deal with such horror, and now everyone is pointing this out. Quick, some fucker rush out a statement so we don't look as unfeeling and toadying as we actually are."

Apparently not. There's a deadline for public nominations (31st March), under which eg Grenfell folk would get recognized, but not for other categories like sports people. Hence a responder to the Westminster attack is recognized (happened on 22nd March).

I've no idea why thing should be so inconsistent.

Well that's just shit. It doesn't take 9 months to put a name on a fucking medal. For fucks sake when the Open golf is on they're etching the winner's name on it before he's even finished the last round.
