Imagine how good that United team would be if they were coached by someone who had an idea how to get the best out of them.

Hmm, If arsenal can emerge from this mess having signed mkhtaryan and aubameyang, that will be extraordinary. It's a fucking ridiculous deal from Man utd's point of view, but that's down to the mouthshitter that we has as manager.

However a) unless arsenal get a manager who can get arsenal to play like Dortmund, this isn't going to change very much b) Why is Aubamayeng signing for Arsenal? I know that Arsenal are in theory and in practice a big rich club, but he must have shit the bed something rotten at dortmund if Arsenal are the club he's joining, and not say real madrid. I expect to see Arsenal's pay structure growing in exciting new ways to make this happen.

Mkhitaryan has always been a late-Wenger Arsenal midfielder, surprising it's taken this long to make the move, perhaps it was having to deal with Mino Raiola put them off before. He'll do better there than at Man United, and he's free from being bullied by Mourinho, which is nice for him.
Interesting that all the players in Arsenal's transfer window quadrangle are basically the same age, 28 turning 29. Sanchez is a month older than Mkhitaryan, who turns 29 tomorrow, and he is three months older than Walcott (March), who is three months older than Aubameyang (June). Wenger not bothering building for the future, which is wise.

That game was weird to watch. two teams basically trying to do the same thing. Burnley have a much better idea how to do it but man utd are trying to do it with much better players. The Team that Burnley remind me most of are villarreal, back when they were good. But English. Burnley just need to upgrade a couple of parts of their team. Sean Dyche is doing the hard part right. I was just wondering how they were going to score other than from a set piece, and they didn't have Robbie brady. It's going to be very interesting to see what happens there in the summer. They should be swimming in money, and they should be able to come up with enough money to convince dyche to stay, and also to sign a slightly better standard of player. he would be mad to leave.

It sounds trite, but Man United won that game because they've got better players, not because they're a better team or have a better plan.

We're definitely missing Brady and Wood, which is a bit odd considering that those weren't exactly considered the first two names on the team sheet. But we've struggled to score in the Premier League seasons. Our most creative player is Steven Defour and he's in a holding midfield role with Cork. I'd love to see him in the #10 role currently not being filled well by Hendrick but understandably Dyche considers the the cost of breaking up that midfield duo to be too high.

We've still got Scott Arfield on the wing for Gods sake, and - loyal club servant aside - Championship level at best. N'Koudou came on and injected some pace into the side. Would like to see him get a run but Dyche won't let anyone start without trust their ability to fit into the defensive system.

It's easy to say we need a winger and a #10, but there isn't much out there for a club like us. Linked with Aaron Lennon and that would be a brilliant signing, I think.

Interesting point about them all being 28/29-as is Mesut özil. But Arsenal's team today had 5 starters who were 25 or under. The bench had 5 more including 2 teenagers. Much of the future is there already. Bellerin Maitland Niles and Iwobi are all regular starters and Bellerin is the oldest at 23 - Nelson, and Nketiah are both teenagers.

Aubamayeng is only on about £50k a week at Dortmund, so Arsenal could more than double that and not break the wage structure. Also his recent disciplinary issues probably mean he likely hasn't been picking up that wage every week, and is almost certainly the reason why there aren't a queue of clubs chasing his signature. Also he's a player who's pace is one of key attributes, and at 28 with a niggling hip problem that points to a player in decline. I reckon he's got 2 seasons, three at best before he's winding down his career in China and the UAE.

the thing is that Brady is very good at certain things. He's very good at striking the ball, and on a simple level, he substantially increases your chances of scoring a set piece goal. But he's also quick (if not fast) and he's a clever skilful player. if he had better luck with injuries, and perhaps a different passport, he mightn't be playing for burnley. it's very clear watching ireland games that he's by far our best player, other than perhaps coleman, and is a good international level player.

I can't help feeling that Aaron Lennon is precisely the sort of player that Burnley probably shouldn't sign. there are an awful lot of footballers out there, and burnley's game plan relies on reliable decision making, and that's not really lennon's thing. if it's a loan, and they don't have anyone permanent lined up though, sure why not?

Aaron Lennon confirmed for "a nominal fee".

More importantly, Dyche signs a new contract taking him through to 2022. He is the club employee earning the most at £3.5m a year. Which is a lot of money, but on the other hand he's got us £230m in income, so...

The only consistent transfer links were with clubs in China. But no such club came in for him, largely, I suspect, because of the taxes on big transfers in China. But it was remarkable that Europe's big clubs were not lining up to get him. So he'll be indeed a quick-fix. Probably a very successful one, if he stays fit.

How the Premier League salary cap affects Arsenal's dealings

Interesting stuff, has it similarly impacted on Man U and Chelsea when they have recently “qualified for the UEFA Champions League one season but not the next”?

Ipswich have signed Chris Goteni, a defender, from the fifth tier of French football. Mick McCarthy says of him "He played in a practice match the other day and was awful". So... that's good, then.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has to be the most Wenger sounding transfer target ever.

I think it rather more likely than not to happpn eventually, though this summer sounds early

Then again, if PSG knocks them out of Europe, all bets are off.

We've added Duckens Nazon. We now have three French, two Curacaons, two Haitians, one Belgian, one Dutch and one Kenyan in our squad. Low-rent Galacticos.

After a month of next to no activity and 4 straight defeats City have signed 4 players in 2 days. A giant centre forward from the German 4th division, Ryan McGowan - an Australian international signed from a club in the UAE and formerly of Hearts and Stephen Warnock and Matthew Lund in from Burton on Loan.

Warnock was at City on loan in 2002 - so a 16 year gap between loan spells which must be some sort of record?

We had Andy Goram from 1981 to 1987, then he re-signed for us in 2002. Twenty-one year gap from the start of his first stint, but only 15 years from the end.

It can't match 16 years, but Phil Bardsleys seventh game for Burnley came 11 and a half years after his sixth.

I remember Cole Stockton's name, which puts him above many of the players who have appeared for Southport over the last few years. Don't particularly remember anything about whether he was any good or not.
