Not a classic way to win the title but Max did a good job for Lewis. Still some mileage in the Bottas v Raikkonen battle too. Another shame for Ricciardo - he'll be glad to see the back of this Renault engine... Oh.

In 2020, there'll be a Hanoi street race, the Vietnam Grand Prix.

That Vietnam race looks everything that is wrong with modern Formula 1. A venue chosen as it is a "destination city" rather than because it has any motorsport heritage. A street circuit. Lots of Tilke features - a pair of long straights, a replica of Istanbul turn 8, a sequence of S-bend corners towards the end of the lap. April 2020 doesn't sound an enormous way away in terms of getting the infrastructure in place and circuit homologation complete.

Lively race yesterday in Brazil - bit too lively for Max, but I guess it all adds to the show.
WRC finale in Australia next weekend - genuinely can't call it, hope Ogier can win it but fear that running first on the marble-y roads might stymie his chances.

I've come round to wanting Ogier to win it too now. Well, M-Sport in particular.
Formula E 2018-19 will be shown on the BBC - mostly on the red button, iPlayer and online but one race will be on a proper channel too.

Mick Schumacher won the Euro F3 championship and has graduated to F2 for next year. He's staying with his PREMA team which is a good place to be - Gasly and Leclerc have both won this series with them recently. Would expect he'll be in Formula 1 in the next couple of years if he's anything like decent at this level, don't know if he's aligned to a big team at all but could imagine Mercedes and Ferrari wanting him in their system for differing reasons.

Great news on Schumi Jr.
Meant to say that I did watch the WRC finale last week and it was a corker - the season in a microcosm really, with Ogier keeping his cool, Tanak pushing like mad, and Neuville making a a series of errors. Toyota well chuffed with their constructor's title too.
In the BTCC there'll be a factory Toyota team next year as the new Corolla is being run with their backing by Speedworks.

F1 may be taking its first tentative steps back towards being watchable again, as the FIA are outlawing most of the stupid gills and fins on the front and rear wings (and to a lesser extend the brake ducts), which in their current form make overtaking much harder as each car leaves far more turbulant air behind it than in the days when the bodywork was more streamlined.
As far as I can tell, roughly half of the odd little winglets and protuberances on a modern F1 car are there only to counteract the effect of the car's other little winglets and protuberances and stop them from flinging the vehicle off into the tyre barriers anyway.

Rally Lapland next month. With Timo Rautiainen as co-driver. In an M-Sport Fiesta. How cool is that?

Massively cool to get a full spec WRC for it. It’s a real draw for Finnish ex-F1 drivers, JJ Lehto has done it loads of times and I know Hakkinen, Kovalainen and Mika Salo have all had a crack at it too (as well as more frequent rallyist Kimi).
Tony Jardine has done it a few times, one of the satellite channels did a short documentary on his efforts a couples of years ago. It goes without saying that I’d love to go over and watch it someday.
