    Oh, is he still shit?

Mediocre players (in your view) with inexplicably long careers at a relatively high level?

Peter Crouch must be a contender - he's not the best, but has had a very good and enduring career. He also gets points for being pretty much the only high-profile EPL player with anything even approaching a proper sense of humour. Good lad, Crouchy.

Glen Johnson and Charlie Adam are still getting games for Stoke this season.

Lukas Podolski. One-footed, slow, unable to hold up the ball effectively. I know he scored nearly 50 goals for Germany, but a fair few of them were down to Klose setting him up all the time.

And, although he's still in his mid-20s: Mario Götze. Yes, his goal won Germany the last World Cup, but what's he done since? (And, yes, I know he was ill, but all you ever seem to hear is "Mario's an excellent footballer, but he has to be given time.")

Come to think of it, what did he do BEFORE his goal won Germany the last World Cup?

Whilst the ball sails over the pair or you, straight to your unmarked teammate behind.

I was bemused to see Dean Whitehead playing a Premier League game on this week's match-of-the-day.

This thread is basically just a list of current or recent Stoke players, isn't it?!?

Crouch should never be forgiven for pulling the Trindad & Tobago defender's dreads to gain EVEN MORE height advantage to score when England sneaked past them at the World Cup.

                        Jonjo Shelvey.

Really never seen the genius other people insist is about to break forth.

If that's the worst thing he's ever done he's an angel compared to most footballers.

It also doesn't disqualify him from this thread.

Player commits foul; gets away with it. Oh, the humanity!

David Bentley seemed to eke out a twelve year career, virtually all in the top flight, seemingly just based on a 20 minute sub appearance in the FA Cup for Arsenal against Oxford.

The reason that Crouch has had such a long career is that it's easy for a lower level premier league team to construct some kind of rudimentary plan based around him flicking on the ball, or holding it up. It's not a great plan, and is worryingly reminiscent of stuff from the dark days of the 80's. but it's important to remember that most of his managers have been spoofers and conmen

If charlie adam was transported back to the 80's where players ran half as far, and at half the average pace, he'd look like an amazing player. Unfortunately for him, every professional footballers are now selected from the pool of people who could also be high standard triathletes, after a spell training in the pool.

He may be currently injured, but glenn whelan has as many caps for Ireland as Paul mcGrath, and made 277 premier league appearances for stoke, Did he look good in any of them I wonder?

Though he played plenty of games for Liverpool & Spurs teams that were at top end of league.

Harry redknapp was a charlatan and a footballing fraud. and rafa benitez signed forwards based on pulling individual letters out of a hat.

The first statement is obvious & hardly needs stating. Having watched Joselu this season you may have a point about the second but Benitez still has enough goodwill to engage further. 1 point from 27 though is testing it.
