Scottish govt. to announce budget this afternoon:

Analysis by Brian Taylor, BBC Scotland political editor

Nobody likes paying income tax. Nobody likes paying more income tax. Therefore, the draft budget is potentially a challenge in terms of public support.

No, Brian. Nobody likes being charged to send their children to school or have to pay to see a doctor or receive medication.

    Dolt!

The income tax rise (assuming it's a small one) will only be an issue if the money is subsequently misspent - prescriptions, dentistry and eye tests remaining free will be popular, as will any attempt to bring those cunts at RBS to heel over their plans to leave half of rural Scotland without a bank.

More transport projects for Edinburgh while Aberdeen and Inverness's links to the rest of the country remain shite will not be popular. Failing to address jobs and housing will also not go down well.

Don't BoS and Clydesdale have some responsibility there too?

Yes, but they're not owned by the taxpayer.

Milquetoast and Centrist. But Scotland’s projected growth rates are terrifying (the Scottish economy is much more dependent on exports than rUK, thanks again, Brexit!), any more radical changes would probably just eat into the tax take. Without proper control over VAT, CT, and especially taxes on wealth, this might be close to the limit of what’s possible (that and Scotland not being half as left wing as the Central belt likes to think). Though with everyone on 33,000 and less facing a very small tax cut (when also factoring in changes made by Hammond in the UK budget), the bleaters moaning about being gouged by a whole 1-2% are a small amount of the Scottish labour force (median income only 27000).

They’ve pissed off the Tories and Labour for opposite reasons, so probably the best they could hope for.
