Yes, good point, they should be fine no matter what.

Rain delay at Chelmsford with Essex just three wickets away from a sixth win.

In the commentary they mentioned that the ECB may be considering having a ten teams in Division One and eight in Division Two at some stage.

Mad that whoever wrote that for Sky thinks the divisions are currently nine plus nine though.

        Resuming at Chelmsford now.

Kent have beaten Glamorgan - is that promotion sealed now?

(Edit - I don't think it is yet, but it's basically done.)

Berkshire smashed Lincolnshire to win their third Minor Counties Championship in a row.

And he's playing one of those key innings today. Lyth unbeaten on 134 at lunch.

Porter once again taking a wicket at the start of a session, with Barnard caught behind off the second ball. Worcs eight wickets down. With Somerset looking likely to be defeated by Surrey, perhaps Essex have still got a sniff of second place?

Bloody hell Morkel is averaging 13.35 in the Championship.

Essex win by and innings and 129. Worcester are relegated.

So, how do we compare that to Sangakkara's 1491 in 16 innings last season, then:

Kent's promotion is now confirmed. Sussex's slim hopes went when they failed to make 400 and get maximum bonifications.

Shame that. I'm sure Yorkshire will bat for the draw and hold on to what they've got when a win was looking entirely possible along with a top-half finish.

Does Morkel contributing to a title win give him the edge?

I want to say "yes" to that. I think Surrey have found the Sangakkara-shaped hole easier to replace than expected, particularly with the emergence of Ollie Pope this year.

Didn't even seem to start today.

                                    Draws taken already:
                                    Yorks v Hants
                                    Som v Surrey

Somerset v Surrey was abandoned after damage to the wicket at Taunton caused by Storm Bronagh. Covers were blown from the wicket, with the pitch deemed unfit for play.

Yorkshire just need to pick up two points from their final game to be safe for certain, or for Lancs to fail to reach 300 in their first 110 overs, for example.

Lancs and Notts both doing their best to go down here. Notts look like being unable to get a batting bonus point which, if they lose, would leave Lancs needing four batting points and a victory to pip them . But Lancs have nine down for 279 and could be relegated before I've finished typing this post. I think.

edit: which is indeed what has happened.

No... even funnier than that - a slow over rate in the Roses match from July:
