As expected, Gerry Adams has finally announced his retirement as leader of SF, but the accompanying end of Martin Ferris means that active known members of the Provisional IRA have finally withdrawn from public life. Of course, the Army Council may well be pulling strings behind closed doors, but ostensibly at least, a new political generation will take the helm.

Between that and the decision to go into coalition they are definitely aiming for respectability, I think they could be the biggest party in the Dail next time around -
