The Tour de France route is about to be revealed - live stream here.

Most of the route has been leaked already, we know it'll be largely based in the south and east of the country. There's a ramp finish on the Planche des Belles Filles, summit finish on the Tourmalet, expected time trials in St Etienne and Nimes and the final mountain stage on the last Saturday goes over the Iseran to Val Thorens. What we can find out this morning is the detail and how tokenistic they can make La Course. Route itself should be released around the top of the hour.

They've just shown the three living five-time Tour winners, seemed a bit harsh to put Poulidor right behind them given that they're commemorating the centenary of the yellow jersey.

And now they bring Poulidor on stage to join Merckx, Hinault and Indurain. They've just shown a long film about the jersey in general. It's amusing how Armstrong has been completely written out of history.

Ah, the old cycling joke about how the most significant thing that happened on July 21st 1969 was Eddy Merckx winning his first Tour de France. Here's the route:

Seven mountain stages, five hilly, seven flat, one individual time trial (27k round Pau), one team time trial. Some of the mountain stages are quite short - Tourmalet, Tignes, Val Thorens - though nothing as extreme as the 65k this year. A record thirty climbs at 2nd category or above. Crikey.

La Course is five circuits of the Pau time trial course. The Etape is the Val Thorens stage which goes over the Roseland, a new climb somewhere in the Savoie then the huge ascent to Val Thorens which has only been used once before (in 1994).

Stages 5 and 6 look like some early, and very pretty, fun.

Looking forward to watching the Nimes stage and hopefully seeing places that I actually went to.

Amidst the welter of information this morning I missed what a cracker that stage seven to Chalon-sur-Saone will be - 230k on the flat and quite possibly into a cross headwind. That'll be even more turgid than the similar Chartres stage was this year. Good luck with that one telly commentators.

A couple of British bookies have Bernal at 33-1. Just saying, like.

The London leg of the Track Cycling World Cup started today and BBC coverage begins tonight. I’m there for the three Gold Medal sessions.

Some remarkable Team Pursuit Finals (Gold and Bronze) tonight. Well worth catching up with.

Today’s medal session was the absolute highlight of the event, dominant wins for Kenny & Archibald in the Women’s Madison and Matt Walls in the Men’s Omnium as well as a fantastic performance from Stephanie Morton of Australia in the Women’s Keirin.
