40 seconds with 4k, that should be enough for Politt / Cousin if they don't fuck around. Which is a big if.

Cousin is going to need protection from the gendarmes

Shit, that was a bastard of a crash.

Well, a win's a win, but Cousin isn't going to find many friends in the next break he gets into.

Greipel the best of the rest, impressively coming round the European champion Kristoff.

Can't say the manner of Cousin's victory fills me with joy, but that was the rarity of morning break going all the way.

L'équipe reporting that Katusha staff called Cousin 'an amateur' when they saw him after Paris-Nice yesterday.

                  Tirreno-Adriatico breakaway:
Nicola Bagioli (Nippo - Vini Fantini)
Jacopo Mosca (Wilier - Selle Italia)
                  Stepan Kurianov (Gazprom-RusVelo)

Kwia talking about Sky having good position with several riders on the GC, says the sprinting field is really strong.

Long stage, nearly 240km, and they've done the first half rather quickly.

Muur de "Hoy"? Kirby didn't even try to get that right, the lazy twat.

Politt's in the break at Paris-Nice again. Trooper.

Superb. He's (still) not got any pro wins to his name, but has consistently performed well in ITTs the last couple of years. Perhaps he's going to be the next Thomas De Gendt.

The three breakaway riders in T-A have two race wins in total, both for Mosca, and those being a stage of the second-tier Tour of Hainan last November, plus the overall GC win. Though it's probably academic today.

Degenkolb and Bouhanni didn't start today.

Bouhanni may be riding his way off of Cofidis, which would be quite a fall from his peak.

I wish whoever at UCI came up with the system for denoting road race types and levels had used a bit of common sense. Whenever I see 2.1 it takes a little while to remember whether this means a fourth level one-day race, or a stage race at the third level (it's the latter) and it's easy to get muddled up with 1.2.

"I know, for one-day races, how about we use a number 1?"
                              "Yep, with you there."

Then a letter for stage races would have made life somewhat easier. E for étape/etapas/etappen would have worked a treat. So we'd be looking at a couple of E.WT races this week, for example.

Watching Eurosport, I think we may have under-estimated their insatiable desire for "blooper" material in the proliferation of "extreme" sports in the Winter Olympics.

Poels crash. There was a badly positioned car on that descent, hope it was nothing to do with that.

And that's a cracking win from Rudy Molard who attacked from way down the group with a kilometre left.

Roglic times his break at the finish perfectly and wins Tirreno-Adriatico stage 3 with no help from his team.

Impressive from Roglic, though he did get his initial advantage via a massive tow from the camera bike. Was watching a French stream where the commentators were endlessly analysing Bardet's position and performance. You get how so many good French riders succumb to the pressure.

Oh and Geraint Thomas grabbed a few seconds at the end and is now in the race lead.
