    Opening Lines

Yeah yeah I've no doubt this has been done before but what the hell. Two suggestions from me then for the best opening lines, not just to a song but to a debut album, the first being inspired by the Chart Music thread, the second because it popped up on a random shuffle a couple of days ago.

"I don't have to sell my soul, he's already in me" - Stone Roses, I Wanna Be Adored. A magnificent statement of intent even if time has revealed it to be something considerably less than genius that the devil gave him in exchange for his soul.

"Jesus died for somebody's sins but not mine" - Patti Smith, Gloria. Simmering anger, ambiguity and otherworldliness. I read something recently about intros having become shorter and shorter since the advent of Spotify. Ms Smith would've had no need to worry about Gloria not having been played for the required 30 seconds for her to be paid her fees.

I'm not precious incidentally so I'm not just looking for lines from a debut. I'm just hoping for anything other than a nil thread.

When we did this before I remember "I'm a street walking cheetah with a heart full of napalm" being one of the favourites. I still think it is the best I know.

[Edit] Bugger, missed the bit about first track on debut album... So here's my alternative:

I had a king in a tenement castle
Lately he's taken to painting the pastel walls brown

Embarrassingly, this is the first time I've found out that it was originally done by the Stooges. The only version I have of it is by top pop funsters EMF, so I always assumed they'd written it.

"Bentley said to Craig "Let him have it Chris". They still don't know today just what he meant by this"
"Is it worth it? A new winter coat and shoes for the wife and a bicycle on the boy's birthday"

I may be stretching the opening line definition with those two
