Tokyo 2020 Olympics: Home nations agree to GB women's football team
“England have been nominated to try and claim one of the three European spots available at the 2019 World Cup that would then be handed to Team GB.”

I know it's extremely unlikely, but what happens if Scotland get further than England in next year's world cup? Still try to claim a place for UK-NI, or give it to whatever UEFA team has a better record than England?
Oh, and for the sake of consistency, "No Team GB".

The CONCACAF Women’s Championship has got to the semi final stage now. Panama have made it to the final four after beating Mexico in their final group game. So it's Panama v Canada and the US v Jamaica, on Sunday, with the final and third place match on Wednesday. As mentioned upthread, this confederation championship also determines the WWC qualifiers, with the finalists and third placed team qualiifying automatically. Canada and the US both won 3/3 in their groups, with a 17-1 and 18-0 goal difference respectively, so that really should be the finalists. Especially as they are the only two teams ever to have been CONCACAF champion, with the US having more titles to their name, by 7 to 2.
The losers of the third place match will have a playoff against Argentina in November, after the Argentines came third in Conmebol behind Brazil and Chile.Last edited by Kevin S; 12-10-2018, 09:59.

Just catching up with this tournament this morning. Very impressive performance by Panama (Los Canaleros). They have a seventeen year old goalkeeper who saved a penalty in the game against Mexico when the score was still 0-0. Also it seems like all their players are based in Panama, whereas I was expecting them to have a few US based players with Panamanian ancestry. It's the semi finals tonight which I expect to be pretty easy for the USA and Canada and then it will likely be a big game against the Reggae Girlz for automatic WC qualification.

So that's 17 in, 7 to go:
The winner of Jamaica v Panama (Wednesday)
The winner of (loser of Jamaica / Panama) v Argentina playoff (9th and 13th Nov)
The winner of the Netherlands v Switzerland playoff (9th and 13th Nov)
The winner of the OFC Nations Cup (18 Nov - 1 Dec)
The top three* of the Africa Cup of Nations (17 Nov - 1 Dec)
* unless one of them is Equatorial Guinea, who are banned - in which case the fourth placed team would qualifyLast edited by Kevin S; 31-10-2018, 15:32.

It's only reasonable that GB is asked to nominate a side that will play on their behalf before the tournament that decides qualification. No other country gets multiple chances to earn their Olympic place.
BTW, it's good news that the Men in charge of the various FAs have finally recognised that the structure of the Women's game is different so the assumptions and norms from the Men's sport shouldn't necessarily apply.

Just had a quick look through the attendance figures for the UEFA qualifying. Obviously we don't have data for France but it was interesting to see that there are two countries where the women's team draws crowds of around 20000-25000 for a big game - England and Netherlands. The drop-off from these two to everyone else is very steep.

Our u-21 men also had about 5,000 this week. They beat Slovakia to finish second to Spain. Sadly not quite enough for a play-off (there are only 12 finalists).
