And that's it! Scotland move on to 15 points. Switzerland look set to move on to 18 points today, as they are a goal up in Belarus about halfway through the first half there. However Scotland now have an 8-point cushion over Poland with two to play. So that secures at least second place - they've just got to get enough points (probably beating Albania will do it, I hope) to be one of the top four of the seven runners up. And then win the Playoffs...
Or, of course, beat Switzerland by two goals (as well as beating Albania) to take the group and qualify directly.

Looks like even a win today for Wales is unlikely to be enough to secure a playoff spot. The second place teams in groups five, four and three already have twelve points excluding matches against bottom seeds, and a Scotland win against Albania would see them reach that mark too.

If we lose to England the second place permutations are as follows:
Group 6
Austria can't catch Wales, but Finland can (because they dropped a point against bottom-side Israel - which won't count). They'd need to beat Austria and Spain though.
Group 7
Belgium need to beat (already qualified) Italy and Romania to finish above Wales
Group 2
Scotland would need one win from two games against Albania and Switzerland to finish above Wales
Group 3
Norway would almost be guaranteed to finish above Wales. The only way they couldn't is if they lose to Netherlands and drop points to Slovakia, and Slovakia beat Northern Ireland to avoid finishing bottom of the group.
Group 4
There are a few weird permutations involving Sweden losing to Denmark and Ukraine and Ukraine losing to Hungary, or Denmark failing to beat both Croatia and Sweden at home but if none of that happens, two of Sweden, Denmark or Ukraine would get more points than Wales.
Group 5
Iceland would need two points to finish above Wales from home games against Czechia and Germany.
Think it's safe to say we need a result against England or we're out. A draw against England would open up a few more permutations though

Tangentially, the qualification process for the UWCL involved finding some teams each to host a mini tournament. I can't help but wonder if a mini tournament of the seven runners up for the final place would've been a good idea. If you wanted it done in the minimum number of matches (six) then you could have something like this (assuming you rank the runners-up from 1 to 7 on the same basis as now):
1A: 6th plays 7th
2A: 3rd plays winner 1A
2B: 4th plays 5th
3A: 1st plays winner 2B
3B: 2nd plays winner 2A
Final: winner 3A plays winner 3B

Meanwhile the Guardian continues its derisory coverage of women's football by not writing about Wales or Scotland at all, but instead publishing an article about how England are "cruising" to World Cup Qualification by, umm, being second in the group.

Despite still having qualification in our own hands, habit compels me to already be looking forward to Euro 2021.
The good news is that Wales will almost certainly be in Pot 2 for their qualifying group which should make qualification much more realistic a proposition.

Exact format tbd but it's likely to be eight groups with the six best placed second-placed teams qualifying automatically and the remaining two going into playoffs. Even if it's seven, both Finland and Ukraine also still have to play their groups' top-seeds.

Either the Racecourse or Rodney Parade for the England game. Really has to be Wrexham, doesn't it?
Wales up to 29th in the FIFA rankings, England down to 4th.

You hope correctly. Bit disappointed that the North is overlooked (again) but it's clearly the right decision for the team given their base in Dragon Park (I didn't realise that Spytty Park is actually adjacent to Dragon park).
Theresa May has promised to fly the England flag over Downing Street for all England's World Cup games in 2019 which seems a bit disrespectful to Wales too...
