    Commonwealth Games football

If football were a Commonwealth Games sport, who would win next year? Let's assume a 16-team tournament, and bear in mind it's hosted by Australia.

If teams were invited and seeded according to world rankings (with Australia in group A), the groups would be:

A: Australia, Ghana, Jamaica, New Zealand
B: Northern Ireland, Scotland, Zambia, Trinidad
C: Wales, Nigeria, South Africa, Cyprus
    D: England, Cameroon, Uganda, Canada

Reckon there would some good games in there. Would the Home Nations all make the semis, at the moment?

We did this last time, didn't we?

It would be u-21 teams so you'd need to use the rankings for that, surely?

NI's extended form spike has included our traditionally hapless U-21s. They're currently leading the qualifying group ahead of Spain after beating Estonia (twice) and Albania. Allowing two-goal hero Paul Sykes of Glenavon to be deadpan in post match interview. "Aye, I'd heard we were ahead of Spain. That doesn't happen often"

Assuming the senior teams play, it looks like home nations v African nations v Australia and NZ. If Wales are in form, maybe them versus Ghana or Nigeria in the final.
