    NBA 2017-18

Not a great start, a sickening injury midway through the first quarter of the Celtics-Cavs match. Foot pointing 180 degrees the wrong way type deal. Focus on the game is tough currently.

Badly broken ankle for Gordon Hayward

Odds on a Celltics title double before the first half is complete.

The Cavs players nearly puking had shades of those poor kids on the Louisville bench a few years ago, when they thought that poor teammate's leg was possessed Linda Blair-style.

Skip Bayless took the occasion of Hayward's injury to make a slam on LeBron losing in the finals again. What a fucking asshole.

Well, that was a finish! After a tip-tip-tip, the ball gets to Durant, for an 8-foot jumper, which goes in... but the shot took place on 0.0 seconds, and Houston win by 1 point.

It's like a video game, isn't it, where they've all got the same 'start running' animation.

These near-psychic levels of communication didn't help them though:

Suns suffer worst opening night loss in NBA history, also set a franchise record.

The Suns have fired Earl Watson as coach. A very quick reaction, though things didn't look like they would be getting better, and the team seemed to be blaming him for the poor start, saying they were unprepared and Eric Bledsoe tweeted "I don't want to be here."

The T'Wolves went on the road and beat OKC with an Andrew Wiggins banked 3-pointer at the buzzer:

Besides Minnesota, Milwaukee are also becoming a team that I think a lot of neutrals are going to be rooting for, if for nothing else than because Giannis Antetokounmpo is playing on an otherwordly level right now.

And the Suns seem to be turning things around, now back to 4-4 following a win at Washington Wizards yesterday.

And Gordon Hayward has been giving a press conference about that horrible injury - he seems fairly upbeat all things considered. Not for this season, though, obvs.

It's funny that with the emphasis on guards in recent years that some of the most exciting young guys to watch are bigs: Giannis, Porzingis, Karl-Anthony Towns, and especially Joel Embiid, who had a historic game against the Lakers last night. Ben Simmons was also outstanding for Philly. The Process is working.

The Clippers have traded Blake Griffin to Detroit for some bodies and a first and second round pick.

What's really surprising is that they are just a game out of a playoff spot, and you'd expect New Orleans to fall off with Boogie Cousins out for the year. But the Clippers seem to be starting a full-on rebuild, with Woj reporting that they are willing to trade DeAndre Jordan (though he would just be a rental for any team that gets him now) and Lou Williams.

We're going to see the Lakers and the Clippers going up against each other (and other teams) trying to lure LeBron and Paul George to LA.

James Harden recorded the first 60 point triple double in history. Russell Westbrook set the previous high points record for a triple double just last year.

                                              Poor Tim Hardaway, Jr.:

And even worse for the Knicks, Porzingis out with a torn ACL, likely not back until 2019. Rough stuff.

Cleveland has made over almost its entire roster. At first they traded IT, Channing Frye, and their 2018 first round pick (not Brooklyn's higher pick) to the Lakers for Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance Jr. Getting younger but also seemingly helping the Lakers get more cap room this summer, and of course the Lakers have been rumored to be a possible LeBron James destination, so that was a bit curious. But they kept on going and have shedded a lot of old players and really bad contracts.

                                                  https://twitter.com/DownWithDamon/status/961663615924191232

Really surprising amount of business, and they've come out really strong. Boston and Toronto still look better on paper, but this might help clear up a lot of the negative energy in the Cavs locker room.
