    Give it both barrels

Liverpool's 7-0 humiliation of the mighty Maribor tonight had the added bonus of two double-barrelled names on the scoresheet for the same team.

Has this happened before? Has there ever been three?

Dunno about goalscorers but I could make a pretty decent XI if I could just find a keeper:

      ________________________
      Walker-Peters
      Borthwick-Jackson
      Fosu-Mensah
      Alexander-Arnold
      Oxlade-Chamberlain
      Ward-Prowse
      Loftus-Cheek
      Calvert-Lewin
      Choupo-Moting
      Robson-Kanu

Looking through the England youth squads for further players, Maitland-Niles in the under-21s, Buckley-Ricketts (under-20s) and Gibbs-White, Oakley-Boothe, Hudson-Odoi, Smith-Rowe and Lyons-Foster (under-17s) have all had call-ups in the last year. No goalkeepers though.

            There's always the Wright-Phillips brothers.

On a similar note, what was that stat about the number of players called "Harry" in the England team the other week?

Unless my eye is passing over someone, this site suggests that Sylvain Ebanks-Blake (twice) is the only player with a double-barreled surname to be top scorer in either of the top two divisions of the English league.

I should add that Nathaniel Mendez-Laing did not score for Wolves during this period.

I have an old Bolton v Southampton programme at my parents' house, featuring Forbes Phillipson-Masters.

Who sounds like he should be playing polo, but I think he became a painter and decorator after he finished playing.

I found a keeper... albeit one currently playing in the sixth tier (he is on the books at Leeds though).

                        Bailey Peacock-Farrell completes the teamsheet.

This has taken a long time to find. But it's been fun.

                          3 January 2011 - Boom.

Surely that's just two double-barrelled names, Kev?

Yes, answering the first question. And even this took a fair while to track down!

                                Ah, I see. Apologies.

                                And good work (saddo).

Yep. Good work Kev. We now have 2011 as Year Zero on the double-double-barrelled goalscorers.

It doesn't count if it's just three surnames.
