I've got one next week, follow-up after one 3 years ago that was Ok at the time but awful the rest of the day.
though the 'overnight' fluid to empty you routine has been replaced with a one hour before setting off enema, so i should at least get some sleep.
One piece of advice- DO fart/don't be reticent or hold it in. I wasn't consciously doing so, but by the time i got home i had severe stomach cramps and was shivering on the sofa all day

I've just read that sorbitol is also forbidden. Considering I'm addicted to nicotine chewing gum, this is going to be a pretty miserable 48 hours all round.
Still, minor problems as yet, compared to what Hobbes is going through.

A friend of mine had a cystoscopy on Tuesday, thankfully everything is all clear but as he said " I wouldn't wish it on a Shamrock Rovers fan " which says it all, three days later he's still sore.
If you don't know what it is think Joey in Friends "are you crazy, nothing is going up!"

For a fat, lazy, middle aged bloke who likes a drink I'm doing OK.
All stemmed from some chest pains I got a few weeks before my redundancy date. I was worried they might be serious given my old man died at 42 after a triple bypass at 37
The CT scan was inconclusive artery-wise but showed up some suspect nodules and a thickening in the old food chute.
So at that point it could have been heart disease, cancer, or various other bad stuff.
So the hernia was a bit of a relief really. Apparently that can give you chest pains sometimes. As can anxiety about losing your job.
Anyway they still wanted to do the angiogram to be sure (God bless the NHS!)
Turns out that my arteries are fine. You could eat your dinner off them. I take after my mother after all.
Long story short, I'm probably not about to keel over any time soon.Last edited by hobbes; 12-10-2018, 14:45.

Well, I had my colonoscopy last Monday. They found a couple of polyps, one of which was pretty huge.
I've had bloody poo for years. I know I'm an idiot. I know I should have done something about it much earlier. But a combination of depression, and working a constant 60 hours a week to cope with a post divorce mortgage and 2 studying daughters somehow got in the way. That and the fact that I've always felt indestructible and reliable.
Obviously it was impossible to get the doctor to commit immediately post op, but he did explain at length what would happen if the the polyp was found to be malignant.
Since Monday I've had no blood, and a lovely reminder of how it is to have normal bowels. But, to be honest, and to use an unfortunate expression, I'm shitting myself. They are going to ring me on Monday with the result.
I've got no family here. My finances are still in a mess and I have no energy left for a fight. I'm just glad I'm working all weekend to keep my mind of this until Monday.
I don't want to be a drama queen. I'm just venting here after a long day and a bottle of wine. I don't really want to worry anyone in my family until I get the results.
For all I know, Monday night could be one of best nights I've had in years.

I suppose the real message is that if you have doubts, get yourself tested. I always like to think I'm reasonably intelligent and aware, but I didn't do it.
Thank god I live in a country that obligatoraly test at 55 instead of at 60 or not at all.
It's very easy to get in the habit of not asking for help. I don't think I've asked anyone for help with anything at all since I got divorced 9 years ago. You get used to being depended upon.
I've always loved otf for being a place to quietly absorb proper advice.

Wednesday evening I got a text from one of my friends "Can I ask you some questions about colon cancer?"
She'd felt that something was wrong for a while now and had scheduled a colonoscopy last year, but in the event didn't go because she couldn't find anyone to take her (or, more accurately, nobody she felt comfortable enough to ask could at the time, but I think that was a pretty short list (maybe even only 1 person)). She finally went in last Friday.
Hopefully yours turns out not to be malignant, Logan.

The cotton bud was the least pleasant, but none of it was anywhere near as bad as I had been anticipating. Don't let fear hold you back.
Worst part of the whole thing was reading the report from the specialist who described my genitalia as 'unremarkable'

An update. Having said they would ring me with the results on Monday, they finally rang at 1645, and I've got the all clear. It's such a relief.
I think I've learnt my lesson. I never want to go through a week like this again. Any doubts about anything, get yourself tested people.
Like I said, I've been pooing blood for years and did nothing about it. Everything says that the longer polyps are left untreated the more chance they have of becoming malignant. Its why I was so worried.
So tonight, I don't think even I could be unhappy. And I'm going to enjoy my new found, perfectly functioning bowels.
