Lorde called a bigot over Israel stance in full-page Washington Post ad

So that's how freedom of speech works in a democracy then, glad to know.

Sheldon Adelson is willing to spend virtually unlimited funds for this kind of thing.

Is Shmuley Boteach regarded as a serious voice rather than, say, a ludicrous self-publicist whose previous forays into the music game didn't indicate any great gift for judging character?

Phew, that's a relief, even allowing for the bar being set pretty low these days.

Is that from when Geller and Jacko were going to buy Exeter City?

That ad in the Post "also criticises New Zealand’s co-sponsorship last year of a UN resolution that condemned Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territory and caused a six-month diplomatic rift with Israel" (Guardian link).

That was the previous right-leaning government of John Key, son of a Jewish mother and Holocaust escapee. So probably not motivated by anti-Semitism.

Really you wouldn't even want to engage with this kind of nonsense, but it's hard to ignore a full page ad, and (understandably) the NZ media haven't.

That strategy forces people to taker sides. It might be useful to engage with it. And Miko Peled is a useful and current reference point.

A reminder that Miko Peled was the man who was used as evidence of antisemitism and holocaust denial at the Labour Party conference

The most venomous abuse tends to be reserved for Israeli and/or Jewish critics of Israeli policies. There's more than a whiff of "dare call it treason" about it. It's horrible stuff. And gets a very easy ride.

Peled was quite wrong to say this: "The Holocaust was a terrible crime that we must study and from which we must all learn. I reject the idea that Holocaust deniers, foolish as they may be, should be treated as criminals..." Nobody has ever denied the Holocaust for noble reasons. There are good people (and, of course, also many bad people) who say that the number of 6 million is inflated, but even to say that is banal and dangerous.

But saying that the Holocaust is up for discussion -- wrong and thoroughly problematic as that is -- is far from actually denying the Holocaust. Those who decry Peled and those who invited him as anti-Semites and Holocaust deniers are guilty of exactly what E10 Rifle says.

Peled IMHO seems to draw an equivalence between the Holocaust and the Occupation. Again that's not denying the Holocaust but it could be minimizing it.

And that is indeed problematic. But it's not the equivalent of Holocaust denial. And I don't believe that non-Jews are qualified tell a Jew how he or she is to feel about the Holocaust

The Radiohead vs Lana Del Rey plagiarism spat can be resolved by both parties returning to Tel Aviv for a reconciliation concert.

Meanwhile, Jerry Seinfeld and family go to the Occupied West Bank to play being IDF soldiers. The report neglects to mention whether the Seinfelds used Palestinian school children as target practice for the full immersive experience. So with Racist Kramer and Fun-Zionist Jerry, Seinfeld has been thoroughly spoilt for me.
