Vera made me laugh over the years when I used to watch Corrie. News of her death made me do a "Flamin' hell, Vera", which I hadn't done for years.

Vera was a bit nasty when she first started on the show but I think she mellowed later, which was perhaps a trope of the format, where longevity gives a character some softening and writers don't want to upset her folowing.
