What a win. What a night.

That was a great performance by spurs. It really pisses me off that Kane wasn't available at Old Trafford, as he would have probably turned a "Mourinho defensive master class" and a "mourinho Tactical chess victory" into a searching examination of how man Utd have literally zero plan for what to do other than curling up in a fucking ball, and taking low risk jabs at the opposition.

Spurs were the least spurs they've possibly ever been. You don't normally expect spurs to go out to play Real madrid while expecting to win, with a plan to do it, the players to make that plan work, and then have them actually pull it off, not through superhuman effort, but through just executing a game plan that they have been working on steadily for years. And while Harry Kane was an important part of that, his primary importance is as a line leading forward that everyone else operates off. That was as obvious last saturday by its absence as it was last night by it's success.

There were an awful lot of great goals last night as well. Some of them were absurd.

Do Spurs now have a better chance of winning the Champions League this season than the Premier League? They can beat anybody on the night but don't have Man City's depth over 38 games. They are perhaps where Arsenal were the last time they made the final but finished 24 points behind Chelsea.

For example, you look at last night's amazing performance and then you look at the Prem table and see Spurs are only a point above a mediocre Arsenal side. WTF?

Spurs aren't going to win either, their squad is too thin, and they would need a huge amount of luck to cover possible absences of Alli, Kane, Erikson and any of the back three. The aim for them has to keep going through the season and keep showing themselves to be a serious club with forward momentum, so that people start to think of them as s Super club once they move into their massive fucking stadium. If Daniel Levy decides to pay his players the going rate, then people will probably stop talking about their best players moving to bigger clubs. They mostly need to get people to shut up about how their players need to move elsewhere to fulfil their blah blah blah.

Best central defender off injured after 25 minutes at 0-0
            First choice central midfield missing
            First choice Wing-backs missing

We have no replacements for Lloris and Kane (especially against the better teams). Son can provide good cover for Alli or Eriksen.

Note Alli was missing for the home win v Dortmund and the away draw against Real Madrid.

all of that may be true, but to win the CL you have to be able to get away with that home and away for three knockout rounds and the final, while driving away week in week out in the league. A club that plays the way that spurs plays needs two players for each position that the manager can trust to carry out his system, and keep the system going in spite of injuries. They're not there yet, but they're not far off. That game reminded me of Man utd vs Juventus in 1997, where united were missing keane, butt and cole, and completely overran juventus winning 3-2, with juventus scoring very early, and very late, and deschamps getting sent off for a desperate half rugby tackle, after Ronnie Johnsen sent him off to the shops with a zidane turn. (Now there was a fucking proper intelligent player) They won that night, but they didn't have the squad to keep it going. but you could see that things were going the right way.

PSG are currently favourites to win it. I think their odds are too short for a club that's never won it. Best value arguably Juventus, then Chelsea:

So we are going to get five English clubs in the last 16? Kill it now!

Yellow card to the United fans for still singing "The 12 Cantonas of Christmas".

CSKA take the lead, but with Basle also winning, it's still United leading the group, with the Swiss and Russians to be separated by H2H.

Bayern Munich halfway to the 4-0 win they need to overhaul PSG and win the group.

Chelsea finish 2nd, could get PSG or Barcelona.

Pogba should really have been sent off again. I'm not sure what has got into him, but that was almost exactly as same as the last one.

Couldn't be anything to do with having a manager whose attitude is "by any means necessary" and who'll happily tell his players to go out and sail close to the line on dangerous fouls as long as they can get away with it?

This wasn't a dangerous foul though. He just basically stood on him. it was not good. It was the same as the last day.

Will Liverpool go gung ho even though they only need a 0-0 draw? Sevilla might be the team I would morally support in the last 16. Coach has just had surgery for prostate cancer.

If Mo salah thinks he'll be getting penalties for the likes of that, the next time he plays russian opposition he'll have another thing coming. Liverpool should take him off as soon as humanly possible because if he were to accidentally suffer a serious injury tonight, then the easiest world cup group in history would become a lot easier.

Needing a win and Man City's help, Napoli score early. Madrid already have two.

                                        And Liverpool have 3.

Coutinho gets his hat trick, albeit via a massive deflection.

I reckon they can still arse it up.
