Opening titles that don't fit the show

    While on a YouTube wander:

Discounting the familiarity of the tune, do those first 26 seconds suggest sketch comedy to you?

It was the 1980s. Many BBC theme tunes (comedy, documentaries, sports programmes, drama) sounded fairly similar to that. Even the Doctor Who theme was updated from Radiophonic Workshop to full-on Roland electronic piano.

The BBC's opening credits to Argentina 78 were set to something from Evita. Bang on theme. Espana 82 featured a song from ... Cats.

The BBC World Cup theme for 1978 was Argentine Melody by San Jose feat Rod(riguez) Argent(ina). It was composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, but I don't think it had anything to do with Evita, did it?

The 1982 theme was indeed Jellicle Ball from Cats.

(I'd post links, but, you know - 'Andrew Lloyd Webber'.)

Think a frustrated Scots prog rocker made the Naked Video theme. It's probably a reflection of who was on their uppers when a steady paying BBC theme commissioning part came up

It's more the graphics than the audio I was trying to get at in the OP - it's like someone's seen too many Morton & Jankel music videos and got "ideas".

Titles that promised more than the show delivered, such as Swap Shop and TOTP (where the theme was better than any of the featured hits).

Wasn't The Money Programme a roulette wheel, implying dodgy casino antics rather than the high finance to which it aspired?

BBC Holiday music flogging fortnights in a rat-infested chalet in Benidorm.

The naked video thing still has the inane literalism of high eighties cheap production. So there's a naked man all A-Ha Take on Me drawn, and also Technology VT clips. See what you say. Roy Walker aesthetics ruled the provincial beeb earth.

Helen Lederer was crap but harmless but for some reason her one-trick gurning still makes my fucking blood boil.
