Presumably he means Public Health England, the government agency that is handling the situation.
Botswana seem a strong team, even without, ahem, "Badman". Nice to see another African country rising in athletics, outside of the usual mid-long distance specialists. Cote d'Ivoire have a decent female sprinter as well.

I have been wondering how below par this Worlds is looking compared to previous ones. I chose to take 2001 as the starting point as lottery funding of sport started in 1997 so would probably begin to bear fruit around then :
2015 4 golds/7 medals overall
2013 3/6
2011 3/7
2009 2/6
2007 1/6
2005 1/3
2003 0/3
2001 1/2
So, by my slightly bleary calculations, we average 1.875 Golds and 5 medals overall. We may beat the first figure solely due to Farah if he he delivers in the 5000m but look to have little hope on the overall one even if the relay squads over-perform.
Clearly that's a disappointing result especially for a home games (though I think the importance of that is over-stated) and a reversal of the trend so far this century but maybe not by the margins people are making out.
If you add in the medals from Olympic Athletics from 2000 inclusive we average 2.077 Golds in major global championships and 5.23 medals overall. We up our game a little there but really it just goes to show that we haven't been anything like major players in track & field for a very long time. I'm not sure we've ever been that good, though we're somehow third overall in the all time Olympic Athletics Medal table (just ahead of Finland, interestingly).Last edited by Ray de Galles; 08-08-2017, 23:50.

Britain's also had lots of 4th/5th finishes that, in another year, could have been bronze (Hawkins, Johnson-Thompson, Muir, Langford). It doesn't feel that much below par. Add in the injury to Greg Rutherford and
And, I think it's absolutely standard for all Olympic host countries to peak at, or around, their host year. I was surprised we kept going so well through 2015.
