A win today (phew!) might just ease the pressure on Holloway a bit. The introduction of 20 year-old Paul Smyth was a life saver. It's always great to see a young player on his debut like him, no fear, all running, full of the joy of the game. His celebration after scoring the excellent winning goal was a reminder why we all fell in love with football.

Cardiff have come amusingly unstuck in recent weeks, haven't they?

They certainly didn't offer much today. Their goal was a soft penalty against the run of play. Hoilett played pretty well (possibly because the crowd were all over him) without much support. Colin won't be happy.

Thank goodness. Strange Christmas, a bit like our season, which has produced a right mixed bag of performances. It shows we are not likely to go up or down which is what I suspected back in the autumn.

The win also shows how crucial certain players are to the side. Maddison, Pritchard, Trybull, Tettey, and Gunn have all been key figures in our better performances (plus the recent introduction of academy starlet Jamal Lewis). The worrying thing is that not many of them may be here next season and we clearly look a much poorer side when they are absent.

As I feared, a comprehensive battering at Wolves. Brentford won praise from Wolves fans for attacking and playing the ball on the floor but failed to create a real chance. They competed well for the first hour but brilliant strikes from Ruben Neves and Douglas ended the game as a contest.

Wolves are the best team I’ve seen in our 4 years in the Championship and are streets ahead of anything in the division this season.

Sky obviously think they're all top of the table clashes though after a few hidings they might not be.

No QPR matches. Excellent, the shine has finally worn off. Normal ko times and live streaming Hoo-effing-ray!

I presume it's the "Win a season ticket refund", referring to goings on across the city

Witless banter from United over Wednesday's recent offer of season ticket refunds. The fact that most Wednesday fans thought this was a stupid idea is by the by. (Edit; beaten to it by Zeb)

Evans hasn't played for ages through injury then non-selection and there's talk he might go out on loan, BTW.

Suspect that was a horrible game to watch as a neutral but found the tension quite something, it was the hope I couldn't stand. We worked hard, kept our shape well, they couldn't score for half an hour when we were a man short and we might have won it at the end. Low on quality in general but we showed some real character, that was the sort of game we'd have lost a month ago. Well done fellas, see you next season United.

The Sheff United shirts look horrendously cluttered with the sponsor's name (awful font) and club logo clashing rather nastily.

A 1-0 win at Reading which would have been more convincing were it not for our usual profligacy with chances - another game with 20+ shots. Reading were not as bad as I’d been led to believe but Jaap Stam is not a popular man.

After 5 wins in the last 6 games, I expected to be higher in the table but with most of the teams around us winning we’re at least slowly closing in on the play-off places.

I was at that game. Reading probably deserved to score at some point but Brentford deserved to win, having looked way better in general and especially on the break. Stamís faith that quality will out, and that possession is nine tenths of winning games, is starting to look like blind optimism. Reading are in a relegation fight, and none of their players have improved under Stam in recent times.

Utterly outclassed by 'Boro at LR. Out-thought off the pitch and outplayed on it. Yes they've spent the money, but it showed (unlike when we did it.) We're a bang average team at best, and today's performance threw that into relief big-time.
